Contrary to what Rovell said, LeBron James had some kind of certified ink in 2021, 2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and so on ... #collect

I think the licensing push for Topps has been incredible- Lebron, Wemby, Scoot, Bryce Young, CJ Stroud and Will Levis. All Topps athletes.

Come on Rubin. Make Upper Deck an offer they can’t refuse. Daddy wants to go into insurmountable credit card debt breaking 2024 Exquisite Basketball!

Why would you do that with no MJ?

The assumption would be that Jordan, Tiger, Gretzky, and the rest of the UD exclusives come with the purchase…which would mean Jordan autos in Bulls jerseys are back in play.

That’s assuming MJ would be gracious enough to start signing a bunch again. He certainly doesn’t need the money.

Will Bron only sign on cards with Bronny in the ultimate show of nepotism?

That’s an incorrect assumption. MJ isn’t the Exquisite brand. He doesn’t come as a package deal with the company. Any transfer of ownership of Upper Deck from one group to another would require a new deal with the athletes.

I’ve said this a thousand times here. MJ’s greatest asset is his likeness. There is no amount of money that Rubin can pay him to give up any piece of his likeness.

No idea on the length of the terms or if the rumor is accurate, but I've heard the UD company might be locked up within a family trust (McWilliam's children) and can't currently be sold.
Even without MJ, the Upper Deck IP and NHL license would certainly be a target for Fanatics, in their land grab.

Even if UD was acquired, MJ isn't going to start signing again. He'd more likely terminate his deal and call it good. If he's willing to turn down $100 million for a two-hour appearance, he's not going to sit around and sign cards.

It’s not even about signing. It’s about allowing someone else to profit from his likeness on trading cards.

MJ understands the value of his brand is sustained by controlling 100% of the use of his likeness.

So does this mean we will see lebron on card autos in NBA uniforms starting in 2026? Even if Lebron retires by then they can still produce his autos post retirement, right? Like Panini did with Kobe, Magic, Bird, etc.

Yes. Presumably LeBron has inked a deal that will allow Fanatics to continue to use his NBA image beyond retirement.

Your comment doesn't make any sense.

He signed in 2021 and 2022 and 2023 for UD, no reason he wouldn't sign for Fanatics. His NBA/Bulls legacy is also important to him.

Signing autos at home != public appearances.

I feel bad for anybody holding any lebron autos right now especially the high school ones.

The market is about to be inundated with them.

I'll stand by my comment that he won't sign for Fanatics if UD is acquired.

Are you standing by your comment also that MJ wasn't signing these past years?

Cool, cool.

MJ signing Bulls cards is totally separate than MJ signing UNC/Wiz stuff.

We know it. He knows it.

I never understood the "he doesn't need the money" argument. LeBron doesn't need the money either, nor does Clint Eastwood, Tiger Woods, or The Rock. They all have plenty of money. But the rich stay rich by keeping the money flow coming/keeping their brand in the news and everyone has a price, sitting at home and signing 100 cards for $200K (made up number) is a lot different than traveling somewhere to do anything.

Plus, some celebs don't sign because the money is great, its a way to connect with their fans. Not saying MJ cares about that but some do. Its not like Taylor Swift needed the money from signing thousands of CD covers, she did it to make her fans happy and to get some extra publicity which stars crave as it keeps their brand visible.

Correct. The issue isn’t that he doesn’t need the money. It’s that he doesn’t want to devalue his brand by allowing Fanatics to use his likeness.

It really depends on how many he will sign each year. If Fanatics and LBJ keep a few hundreds for the high end products only, like #/25 for a few sets each year, I don't see it will flush the market.

UD NBA licensed Lebron auto should stay strong, but the high school and street dress ones may come down

Anyone has any idea how many UD NBA lebron cards had been signed from 2003 to 2009? Under 15K? as most of the Lebron auto are numbered #/100 or less; therefore, shouldn't have too many in comparing to MJ, Kobe, Curry licensed auto.
