Default Show Off Your October 2023 Pickups

Almost didn't create a new thread b/c it's so late in the month but then I noticed finfangfan's September thread was made at a similar time so I decided why not.

Been on a Conan kick lately. The chromium cards look like candy and I really like putting together binders for the coffee table. There are also some image/printer variations that make it fun to go through the entire box even after putting a set together -- at least with Series II. I just picked up a Series I box today at a price I was OK with and I'm really only going through one box at a time so I haven't opened Series III yet or the Hyborian age.

I picked up the Series II box, Burroughs/Jusko, and the SW Galaxy set at a Non-Sports card show at the beginning of the month.

I'll wind up opening everything but I like to save things for a rainy day (and I try to keep myself from being surrounded by stacks of loose cards -- I do a generally poor job of it, though).

If anyone has any leads on a decently priced box of the Marvel years, I'm all ears, but what I've seen I can't afford. Same for the Savage Sword of Conan.

Only 2 card pickups this month so far. I’m planning to get one of these signed at FanExpo SF next month. I like the relic card but the parallel has a bigger signing space and better pic. Still plenty of time to decide fortunately.

Thanks--was pleasantly surprised with the prices on 8s. Not as bad as I thought.

I finally decided to get my Topps Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill Auto card graded.

I just got it back yesterday:

Got some stuff delivered earlier this week from my US mailbox (thanks @ifish73 !!)

Super happy with the Alexandra Doddario auto it came out really well and the Bowser art from the recent sketch card grab bag draft in particular but very happy to get it all added to the collection.

I know this is mostly modern non-sport (and it’s November now) but just got these back from SGC. Cool to see Neil Armstrong a couple years before the moon landing.

As a space nerd, I like those early space cards. What year/set are they from? (I cant make it out in the size of the pic). Im aware of the 1969 Topps Man on the Moon set which has the classic Armstrong 'RC' (rookie card is so ridiculous to use in this context)....does that mean the above is an 'XRC'?

Also really diggin that Bowser sketch above!

It’s from a 1967 Heinerle set called “Kampf Um Den Weltraum”. I think the translation is The Fight for Space or something similar.

I think it was a pack issued set of cards (in Germany only, I assume), so maybe a real “RC”. Yea, it’s a little odd with non-sport people but I like the early stuff a lot.

BTW, sorry about the small pic but the other two cards are Yuri Gaugarin and Werner Von Braun.

Here’s the back too, BTW.

Very cool, neat space history right there and gotta be the first example of Neil Armstrong on card. I think because it’s German explains why I haven’t been able to find it in some searches on eBay etc.

I wouldn’t say it’s odd with non-sport people…this is classic non-sports! As much as this board is uber-focused on ultra modern nonsports like Star Wars and Marvel, stuff like this is a big part of the hobby and I love these vintage cards.
