Default 2030 FIFA World Cup

What a farce.

To be held in six different countries, on three different continents…

Spain
Portugal
Morocco
---
Argentina
Uruguay
Paraguay

Certain teams are going to be playing in South America, then have to fly all the way to Europe to carry on playing, while the majority of the clubs stay settled in Europe, or the North of Africa half an hour from Spain. It's ludicrous. How is this a tournament for the common man?

Should also be said, Spain and Morocco #@#@#@#@ing hate each other too.

So absurd. If they wanted to celebrate the 100 years of the WC, why not just hold it there? I don't get there. Europe just got a World Cup, they get another one?

I may be wrong here, and perhaps a bit of tinfoil, but having it in South America, Africa and Europe (and of course USA has the one prior) this seems like a sure-fire way to gift-wrap 2034 to everyone's favourite corrupt sports washing nation, Saudi Arabia.

Writing's on the wall. They already announced they are going for it in 2034.

It just shows where FIFA is at. The 2nd biggest soccer continent in the world is gonna get 3 games in 20 years and that should do it because they have to cater to rich oil giants.

Pretty much. The game for traditionalists is dead. These days you either carry on not bothered about it, slowly fall out of love (like me) or walk away completely and go to grass roots.

There's no return to the 'romance' now, pandora's box is open and the money and corruption is a stain that won't, and likely can't be removed now.

I did hear they were worried about the South American bid due to economic and social reasons, having Peru and Ecuador recently drop out of hosting tournaments probably made that worse.

Having them host just one game each and making them ineligible for 2034 is very convenient for handing the tournament to the Saudi's. I guess the only realistic opposition will be an AUS/NZ bid.

Cynically I'd suggest that they found a way to get more countries to pay them instead of the normal one. Since they are now accustomed to Saudi $$, they needed more players involved.

I can appreciate the Uruguayan angle for the centenary but like, why involve Europe and Africa too?

because that rules them out of hosting future events - meaning the Saudis will be a shoe in.

If that's the case, it's really interesting they didn't let Chile host instead of Argentina.

The 2030 World Cup final could be played at the new Spotify Camp Nou

Its all about money.
Nothing else.
Anyone think FIFA gives a flying f*** about the fans?
Saudi Arabia is definitely getting 2034.
Bribes are already lining jackets.

Yep....and there are still plenty of people who remember Brazil's deteriorating white elephant stadiums.

With the WC now being 48 teams and requiring even more stadiums, the number of countries who can conceivably host it are reduced even further.

Australia is in the race for 2034 also and I would love to see a world cup there. I think they got a good chance. After all going to an arab country again its not going to look good. As for 2030 6 hosts is a joke. Either leave it on South America for the 100 years either get it at that Spain-Portugal-Morocco. Paraguay will occupy an important spot from the south american teams. And the distances are amazingly big.

From what I read only the first 3 games will be in South America. That's still pretty silly if true.

I think England would have made a lot of sense for a single host nation. I do think going to Spain and Portugal games would be a lot of fun though. Morocco doesn't really make sense though.

Morocco eliminates the African continent from future World Cups for X number of years. It's a two hour flight between Marrakesh and Barcelona, same as Lisbon and Porto.

I get why they did it to throw Africa a bone to open it up for Saudi and I haven't flown there but figured it wouldn't be too bad as they are pretty close but it's just another indicator of their obvious plan is all I meant.

Flying around for the 2026 WC will be worse than that.

Each Group will probably have their own nation. It probably wont be that bad actually.

Only three games total are being played in South America. One in each country.

You can only hope.

FIFA in general tries to structure groups to force supporters to engage in the maximum amount of travel possible in order to boost the host's economy.

They NEVER do the obvious thing and make life easy for supporters by staging entire groups in 1-2 adjacent cities.

At WC 2026 they are going to have lots of opportunities to make life easy for supporters by putting groups in nearby cities (Seattle-Vancouver, San Francisco-LA, Guadalajara-Mexico City, Houston-Dallas, Boston-New York-Philadelphia).

But instead your going to see teams have to go from Vancouver to Monterrey to Boston. Or Miami to Toronto to Guadalajara.
