Default Has anyone filed an insurance claim using USPS Ground Advantage

Ground Advantage shipments are supposed to be covered up to $100. I had a $40 card that I sold last month and the tracking hasn't been updated since August 22nd and it just says in transit arriving late. Buyer reached out to me to let me know and I refunded his money. Just wondering if the process is basically just like regular claims. Thanks

Did the buyer reach out via a message to you directly, or thru an eBay "item not received" complaint, before you refunded? Maybe it doesn't matter, but in this situation I will always tell my buyer to file an eBay complaint before I refund.

He reached out via message..i just figured I'd have to refund anyways as there has been no movement since August 22nd and since it doesn't show delivered I'm sure Ebay would make me refund anyways

You are correct, eBay would make you refund....just thinking it would be better for insurance purposes to have the complaint filed thru eBay prior to refunding. File the claim and let us know how it goes for you.

I was just a curious if i file a claim the same way as i would a normal claim because i dont see ground advantage mentioned on the claims form. Was seeing if anyone else has had to file a claim on Ground Advantage

I believe the Ground Advantage insurance is a USPS claim....it would not be filed like an ESE PIP insurance claim....I think that is what you are asking. This is also why I wouldn't have refunded before a complaint was filed with eBay. I know that the PIP insurance would cover you if this were an ESE type shipment, but it was a Ground Advantage package with USPS insurance, that is where you would file your claim.

I would let ebay force the refund that way I am covered if it later gets marked delivered.

I do have one I may have to file a claim on as well. Depending on how ebay rules on the situation.

Do it through ebay and you might be able to get selling fees refunded?

I did one a few weeks ago. package hasn't moved or updated since July 30th. same as yours. it's at the destination hub too. was going to freight forwarder. buyer is kinda a PIA to be honest. before I knew it was a forwarder I asked the buyer if he could check with the local PO, all he came back with is the forwarder didn't receive. I tried an inquiry, they assigned it to someone local where I am for some reason, and all they did was email the other hub and closed out the case.

I then tried to do a recall which I would gladly pay for, but also no updates. I then refunded in ebay since I was going to have to anyway and I then filed a claim. it was hard to find and you need a lot of information. I used the ebay screens and tracking and messages w/customer for all the back up.

I just looked and they declined my claim and sent a letter somewhere with an explanation on the 5th. guess I'll see what that says if ever received and appeal. idiots.

quick update. claim was denied because of lack of sale price proof. I appealed and it will probably be denied again. their upload system only takes certain file extensions and their PDF appears to be broken. I create, see and upload no problem, but when I try to look at the attachment in my claim it's just the Adobe logo. So, no wonder no one gets paid out or just quits because they make it impossible to file a claim correctly. I think I get another chance though if they deny. they need someone alive to email or call about this.

Well, luckily my claim was approved and will be getting my money back. Glad it wasn't too much of a hassle

I dropped a package in the mailbox outside the PO and it never got scanned. They said they don't scan it at that PO if you use the box. It goes to a dist ctr then gets scanned. I filed claim for almost $500 and got denied on claim and appeal. They say there's no proof I dropped it off since it wasn't scanned. I even posted screen shots from a VIDEO of me putting it into the mail box.

It is a racket like organized crime only it is government backed so there's really nothing you can do about it.

Not really . They have rules and had you followed them you may have gotten a refund. Ebay member since 98 and you do not know to get you package scanned? A $500 one at that. I am hoping that this is just satire.

For anything into the multiple hundreds or more, I make sure to hand it off to a clerk so they scan it and they give me a receipt. Can be annoying having to wait in line sometimes…sure. But it does protect a seller more, especially if it comes to insurance claims to have that acceptance scan. A $50 package? Or even $100? Sure I’m just dropping it off in an outside intake box. $500….$1000 etc, I’m handing it to a clerk.

The problem with even having video in these cases is it just doesn’t prove much. Someone can be dropping off any package, or videos generally can be doctored etc. It’s doubtful USPS accepts that as any kind of proof for insurance. I know eBay doesn’t accept video proof.

I would never think to take a video of me putting anything into the mailbox.

I'm pretty much the same here. Sometimes I'll drop $150 in the blue box if I'm really pressed, but for the most part anything over $100 is getting handed to the clerk.

I did about a year ago. Did a missing mail search, and USPS couldn't find it. Buyer filed a claim, I refunded them, turned around and filed a claim with USPS, and I got a check not too long after. It was around $35 to $40.

If this was a blue box and you have a video of it; along with the DC number in the picture i'd be hard pressed to try and talk with someone. I filed a claim a while ago (pandemic) and they paid me out, but yea it took 6 months and it took x2 appeals
