Default Is this problematic behavior?

The internet reports that LEAF trading cards is taking their own sticker autos and placing them on cards produced by Topps, Panini etc.

Below are some examples (not my screen shots). Is this problematic behavior?

It's on their site. Leaf's been trolling the hobby for years.

We can all LOL at this, but there are many uneducated consumers that would buy this stuff thinking they have an original auto RC. Sticker autos are so gross.

No one remembers LEAF turning Kevin Durant's base Chrome RCs into sticker auto cards and having them certified by PSA?

I owned one at one point.

I am SORT OF okay with the idea of a collector putting a sticker on a cool card that otherwise never had an auto version. But if there was a "real" auto version of the card, I don't think anyone has any business making a "fake" auto version.

And I'm not okay with 'company B' doing this on a 'company A' card of any kind. Yes, the "real" one has the printed certification language, probably a faded-out area for the autograph, etc. - i.e., the educated consumer can tell them apart - but these cards aren't targeting the educated consumer. And even setting aside the scummy angle, the most generous interpretation of these cards is "Leaf is acknowledging that they'll make more money selling autographs attached to someone else's cards, because nobody likes theirs" - a problem to which the appropriate solution would actually be "make better damn cards."

This is a perfectly reasonable approach as they’re more collectible than IP autos.

It’s a great idea because it bites into an opportunist’s opportunity to profit on other auto’d cards a player may have, so naturally the opportunists hate it. Bravo!

I think it is dumb and unnecessary. Especially when most players have way too many autos these days.

I'll stick with Leaf Metal baseball as I love that product!

The topic at hand is, well, shady at best.

Right, because that's the only reason that people would hate these frankencards. It can't be that it's ugly and deceptive, just that people are protecting an investment.

You really need a stiff drink and a name change.

The only tiny problem with this is it’s unlikely the collector is going to be buried with his cards so they’ll surface on the free market at some point. I remember there was some person on here making his own Vince Carter Topps Chrome rookie autos with sticker autos he peeled off other cards.

The photoshop job on that William Bergolla Bowman makes a fine pairing with an off-brand sticker auto. *chef's kiss*

People going to break these out and sell them as something else. More hobby deception

Which is why, as I said, I'm only "sort of" okay with it, and even at that, only for cards that didn't have an actual auto version in the first place. Someone wants to transplant a sticker from a Prizm auto to a Color Blast for their long-term PC? I'm not going to get too upset over it.

This is no different than Topps Archive auto cards or IP autos.

The number of reasons not to “invest” continues to climb, people need to learn to stop doing it, I see you endorse alcohol as an alternative investment.
