Default Last chance for Justin Herbert to prove himself?

I feel this is the season he has to make some noise and make a deep playoff run to remain in the conversation of elite young qbs otherwise he will be thrown in the 2nd tier. Seems like the chargers haven't been talked enough about during this offseason, maybe because the experts and pundits are afraid of being let down again.

Huh??? He literally holds all the statistical records for Qbs through their first 2 or 3 years. He is elite, the rest of the team needs some work though. Chargers also play in the toughest division with the best team in the league.

Its not like the Eagles or Jaguars that can just coast through an easy division title.

you can have all the numbers, but this league only respects winners, you know that. why is kyler murray, dak prescott, and lamar not respected more...simple answer, they don't win enough.

He's going to get paid big time. You act like if he sucks after this year he's going to get cut and end up a backup.

This is the year that we all here would like him to take a step up. But he’ll still sign a massive extension and be given plenty of more chances either way. So no, it just feels like this is his last chance because we all want to see his cards become desirable.

You are out of your mind. Herbert has rewritten the record books. He was drafted onto one of the worst teams in the league, which is why the Chargers had the 6th pick 3 years ago.

He took a bad team, and turned them into a playoff team. And its only been 3 years.

Last chance to prove what? Are you implying the Chargers will move on from him, even though he has already proved himself? Strange thread...

Is there a German word for being both completely flabbergasted and unsurprised?

Just like Matt Ryan is remembered for blowing 28-3, Herbert is remembered for blowing 27-0...

How to tell that someone does not watch (or know how to analyze) quarterback play.

I actually think the general consensus is that the blame for that game is definitely not on Herbert. The Chargers D turned in the WORST defensive performance I have ever seen in my life, and Brandon Staley was on the sideline with his knees shaking.

Herbert doesn’t get a pass, but he didn’t have a bad game.

So, who are the Chargers going to replace him with OP?

Herbert is going to be the next Matt Ryan.

Existing. Nothing more, nothing less.

Might as well say Phillip Rivers.

I mean isn't that what Kyler Murray technically did too?

Herbert doesn't have the IT factor. While I don't think the Herbert will be a backup anytime soon, he is certainly overhyped.

The stats say otherwise. Herbert and Murray arent in the same stratosphere.

Whoa there… what Marino was doing, numbers wise, in the NFL during the 80’s and 90’s was unprecedented. There was really no one like him. Unfortunately it didn’t translate to a SB win, but still. Justin Herbert (who I’m a fan of) can easily be compared to his contemporaries at the QB position.

Do I truly care about stats when you don't win? I know theres a give and take with that debate but unless you are Dan marino there has to be some give.

What's our thoughts about Dak? What about Russell Wilson?

Herbert is an odd case. I think he's as physically talented as anyone in the league.

But...

Is it him, coaching (probably)? Bad fortune? Lots of stats, but I don't see it on in the "w" column.

But no - he'll get lots of chances. He's not a talent that you give up on.

Yeah Tua really showcased his skills against Herbert when he posted a 35% completion percentage.

QB overall stats:
6th 2020
2nd 2021
2nd 2022

To answer your question, no!
