I think they should. I dont believe they will be able to keep him during free agency. If they trade him before the deadline, at least they could get some value for him. when he leaves via free agency, they will get a 2nd round compensatory pick.
As a possible alternative, should they trade trout instead and put the big push on to sign Ohtani? |

I prefer when players stay with the same franchise.

I would love to see him stay but it doesn't seem like it's working out. I don't know if they should trade him but they should definitely be willing to listen.

As an Angels fan first I say you have to trade him as I don't see them signing him. (I don't see Arte trading him but he should)
If Arte would have sold the team to someone like Cohen who was willing to just overpay for players then i would have said they should take the chance to re-sign him.. But Arte likes to stay under the salary tax threshold so it doesn't make sense to even re-sign him unless he changes his mind on that. |

I have been hearing numbers like $500MM-$600MM for Ohtani's free agency on radio lately. many talking heads have mentioned that, 1. The Angels will not pony up that kind of cash as they already have the biggest contract of all time on the books, and 2. Ohtani will want to play for a contender, which the angels will not be.
I think it is highly likely he does not play for LAA next season. the next question is: would you rather get something of value out of him, or get a 2nd round compensatory pick when he signs elsewhere? |

Unless the Angels have a serious chance at resigning him then you HAVE to trade him. We are talking about the Angels though and they will find a way to not keep him and get nothing for it.

To me this is a simple discussion - if the Angels aren't going to aggressively look to re-sign him, they have to trade him. The number is going to be huge, as everyone knows. If they are serious about re-signing him, I think you likely have to hang on to him.
If they aren't, you've got to deal him and get as much as possible. |

There’s no way you actually think this.

absolutely
we need to curb these people that seemingly dismiss the regular season. Baseball season is 10x NFL, and twice as long as NHL and NBA Too many people seemingly forget this Ohtani staying with the angles will melt the internet

if Trout didn't go down I would have wanted them to keep him and make a run for the postseason even though they aren't going to resign him. So trading him now is a no-brainer. Are their baseball people good enough to know who to target in a trade would be my question.

He'll become a free agent, declare that he's leaving the MLB and go back to play in Japan where he'll be happier.
I also want to see all those bandwagon POMOhtani clectors and investors heads implode like the Titan sub

If he doesnt resign with the Angels I kinda hope he becomes just another meh player on another team (kinda like Soto) sucking up $60 mill a yeah to be a mediocre DH in a couple years when he stops trying to 2 way play.

This whole thing just screams Dodgers to me. Which stinks if you’re Ronald Acuna trying to win MVPs in the NL

The best thing for the baseball team and its future is to trade him.

Man Fred will have to intervene if the Angels try to resign him. Can’t have the new best player in baseball be on an irrelevant team.

Trade him and trade Trout too. Angels don’t deserve either.

Since I doubt the Angels will be able to resign Ohtani, I think they definitely will trade him to get some compensation. Then the big question is what are teams willing to give up for a 2-3 month rental. When the O’s were in a similar situation with Machado they ultimately didn’t get much in return for him.
