This transfer season has been more frustrating for United fans than the previous ones. It finally looked like the Glazers would sell to the Qatari group and leave United once and for all. But now, it looks like there's anything hardly happening. There are no negotiations for players because of the ongoing crisis and United have already lost out on potential dmf's and Kim. Will the Glazers ever leave the club for good?

You don't even have promotion / relegation, and are a closed shop unless you buy in for incredible amounts of money.
there's no real risk at all in American sport. Ya'll just keep going round and round. If you can fix that (promotion and relegation) and maintain strict salary caps, then more people might be interested in talking. Last edited by YayNJ; 06-29-2023 at 05:20 PM. |

Laughable to think that EPL setup where only the richest 5-6 teams have ANY chance to win the league (and only the bottom half at most are actually ever in risk of relegation) is better than NFL where literally any team could be rebuilt in a 2-3 year span to be a legitimate contender. Not even touching your comment about strict salary caps where ours are much more strict than European football where caps are based on price per barrel of oil. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You seem to have missed I was defending your salary cap. Not sure why you are comparing the Premier League to American Football, considering I was talking about the MLS - and until the MLS adds relegation to the USL, and promotion from the USL to the MLS, there's no jeopardy for teams. It's a bit strange to have a rant about oil prices, when soccer teams in the US only have a chance to 'expand' to the MLS based on how big their bank balance is, and not on on field success, it's also rather odd considering American owners control the three biggest teams in the EPL and then half of what's left in the league. So if you want to point fingers at how and why the Premier League is 'broken' or European Football (Americans now own a growing number of Italian clubs, French and Spanish) perhaps look a little closer to home rather than point fingers at boogy men in the middle east. American Owned. Glazers at Manchester United. Todd Boehly at Chelsea. John Henry at Liverpool. Stan Kroenke at Arsenal. 49ers Group at Leeds United. Shahid Khan at Fulham. William P. Foley at Bournemouth. Wesley Edens at Aston Villa. John Textor at Crystal Palace. ALK Capital at Burnley. Gulf State Newcastle United Gulf and American Money Manchester City (Silver Lake own 20%) Last edited by YayNJ; 06-30-2023 at 03:29 AM. |

How did I know you’d pull the once in a lifetime Leicester card lol. There is a Leicester every year in the NFL, or at least a small market team that makes a run. MLS is not even on the radar of American sports. I’m not sure why you are wasting time comparing EPL to MLS. If you want to see a competitive balance model that works use the NFL. Outside a Leicester season that will likely never be seen again in our lifetime only the richest handful of teams can win the league. In the NFL anyone can win as resources are legislated to be more or less equal whether you are in LA, NYC, Cincinnati or Cleveland, owned by sovereign wealth fund or a team where 100% of the owners worth is in the club. European soccer is a disgrace and I wouldn't watch any of it even if somebody paid me to! Bundesliga = Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich, Bayern Munich ... yawn* Ligue 1 = PSG, PSG, PSG, PSG ... La Liga = Barca, Real Madrid, Barca, Barca, Barca, Real Madrid, Real Madrid, Barca, Barca ... EPL = Manchester, Manchester .... Manchester ... Manchester ... Chelsea ... Manchester ... The European soccer framework is far from perfect. However, I would much rather support a European soccer team with a tradition and history and routed in its territory than risk supporting some US “franchise” that could relocate to another city thousands of miles away if it suits the owner commercially. |

Soccer and cricket are the most watched sports globally, but that's all because of British colonialism. The British owned the world at one time and that's why everybody was exposed to soccer and cricket (the most popular sports played by the British). If the British colonists had been running around with hockey sticks, then today the world would be watching hockey instead.

While there is some truth in that, it's not really the sole reason. Yes, 'modern' football was imported around the world (it's been played for thousands of years in some shape or form), not just by the British though. Also the French, Dutch, German, Spanish. The biggest spread and influence on global football was actually made by railway workers - especially in South America.
The reason why it took off so explosively and became so popular is because of how easy it is to pick up and play. You literally just need a ball. As for your comments on Hockey... the Brits did bring sticks with them. The earliest version of Ice Hockey and documented rules are British, not Canadian. It was born out of Shinty, Hurley and Bandy, before being codified by the Brits. The Canadians a hundred or so years later then took that and brought us 'Canadian rules'.
