Default Who should Wembanyama play 4, from a collector's perspective

Just popped into my mind that there is a heroic debate to be had in which team Wembanyama should play for, in terms of which would best serve the hobby's interest in having a new MJ, or at least Wilt Chamberlain.

This Bleacher Report article takes it team by team.

Of the teams in the lottery, Chicago or Toronto would be the best landing spots, along with maybe Houston.

OKC would be intriguing from a basketball standpoint, since they're already on the rise.

Indiana/Utah/Portland probably the worst possible destinations.

Of the lottery teams, the top-3 teams he could play for that would be best for the hobby would be...

3.) New Orleans - The possibility of him and Zion would be lethal.
2.) Charlotte - Replace Zion with Lamelo
1.) Orlando - Could you imagine a 5 of Wemb, Bol, Franz, Banchero, and Fultz?

The worst 3 teams he could play for would be...

3.) Detroit - Can't even drink the water.
2.) Portland - Gotta dodge molatov cocktails just to get to the arena.
1.) Houston - The night life will get him killed.

Agreed on Indy, as the article mentions Nesmith would lose his starting power forward role. The punch line being 6'5.

Anywhere but Detroit for his real life and hobby outlook.

Doesn't matter where else he lands, the money will be crazy.

Well the Spurs do a pretty good job of nurturing a no. 1 pick.

Just saying

Pacers might actually be the best fit for him out of the lottery teams. Stretch 4 with a true rim protector behind him in Turner.

You'd also benefit from a point guard on the rise in Haliburton.

Their offense is already in place for ball movement and shooting 3s.

But, 6.8% chance to land the first pick, so it won't be happening.

I think that Charlotte would cause a lot of collectors to rejoice, because then their primary 2020 investment wouldn't have to change teams to have a shot. Ditto Mavs.

I don't know about other actually good teams, but the kind of mentorship that Turner, Nesmith, Nembhard, McConnell provide gotta be good for development.

A large market team that will contend within a few years. I think only Dallas and Chicago qualify by this criteria, but there is a 95% chance Vic will not end up on those teams.

Spurs or Pistons. He will lead the spurs, or will push Detroit from last to playoff team with a healthy Cade returning.

As a San Antonio resident, I'd love for him to come here. We need some excitement. The Spurs games I went to were maybe half full this season.

I know people will go crazy in year 1, and I’ll assume he’ll pan out and be a hell of a player. What I’m interested to see is how he’ll be valued 5-10 years down the road from a hobby point of view. Will he be in Lebron/Curry/Kobe territory one day or will be in Embiid/Joker/Duncan territory? The gap is wider in the hobby than in reality between those groups.

He could also be Zion territory
