Default Torry Holt 1999 SP Signature Auto

I unearthed this card a month ago at a local card show. I bought the card for my PC. When I bought the card, I realized I have never seen this card before. After a month worth of research, I have found nothing on the internet other than it is an SP in the set.

Can anyone help me with more information on this card? Any past sales? Print run?

Any info will help.

1999 Upper Deck SP Signature Football, look under "Inserts and Related Sets", then under "Autographs"

https://www.tcdb.com/Checklist.cfm/s...9-SP-Signature

It looks like an SP

Thank you. That is how I found out it is an SP. I’d like to know some sales history. I know there was a member who had the entire master set. Hopefully he will surface and give me some info.

Also, post better pics. Those are terrible. They remind me of those blurred T-shirts that you cant look at very long. Ha

I want to say that Upper Deck sent card shop owners or dealers a special rookie autograph pack that had one or possibly several rookie autographs in the pack. I think it was an incentive for their purchases.

I could be wrong and thinking of another product, but that's what sticks in my head from the days of working at a card shop.

Thanks for the info so far. I also found the PSA population report. There are 8 PSA 9's and 3 PSA 10s. In comparison with other short prints in the set, it is considered a high number. But I don't know if that means there are more copies in existence or that card was more popular and therefore graded more.

They sent packs with 3 base cards. I've heard rumors that the autos were actually in the product, and the rookie base cards were suppose to be in the product, but never inserted. I never heard of anyone pulling an autograph from the dealer packs.

The RC autos are so scarce its ridiculous. Assumed to be 10 of the base and 10 of the gold last I heard

Thanks for the great info.

I'm a bit confused about the possible print run of 10 autos and 10 golds. I looked up PSA pop report and there are 11 total graded (8 "9"s and 3 "10"s.) That is 11 copies. Perhaps it was cracked out and regraded. The odds are not very high, especially if I have one of the copies.

I really appreciate the information to those who contributed.

I bought one of those boxes when those came out. The auto'd RC's were very difficult, definitely SP's and were going for crazy amounts back then. McNabb, Couch, etc. were huge.

You and I are on the same boat. I thought I have seen every Torry Holt rookie, but this blew me away when I saw it.

The price I bought it for also blew me away.

I found this on Terapeak.

Keep in mind this was 1 year ago and the card market has changed dramatically in that time... but it did sell for this.

Yep! You're right...it was base RCs, not the autos.

Thanks for the info. Based on this price and conservative estimates of decrease in value, I'm thinking it's a $400-$500 card.

How does it look... if its a PSA 10... price could be 4-5x that. Doesn't sound like many exist. Currently 3 PSA 10s exist - 11 total graded.

I plan on having it graded. It looks clean to me. I'll load up some clearer pics...per Archangel's request, lol.

I see some slight edge wear on the top of the back of the card where it is red. I don’t see anything else wrong.

Awesome card, these are indeed SP and there's a Gold version as well. I've seen 4-5 regular and 3 Gold since his rookie year. I'd estimate that 25 of each were made, if that.

Psa also has graded the golds as base.

I would say that is still accurate. The true base Sp autos from this set go for a ton. I sold a Shaun king pre Covid for almost $300

Haha, thanks. This card is the exact reason I hold on to everything. I would've thought it was a $25 card and the other SP's were $5-$10 cards.

When it comes to estimating SP's., I usually attempt to estimate the number based on contributing factors and then just double it at the end.

You may have a point that the price of a PSA 9 at $900 is still true. It sold in 2022, which is not at the high point of sales.

Looking at the PSA POP report, there is a separate line for Golds, of which 4 were graded.

I'm also curious, Is anyone following this thread that is UNDER the age of 30?

Yes, but PSA has mislabeled many cards. Including having the wrong YEARS on some. LOL. The Gold parallel is very subtle, I pick up golds at base price often. The Holt may indeed be more common than some of the other RC autos, and the /25 may be more accurate after years of research. I just know the 1999-2000 original opinions.
