Default My 'Pistol' Pete Maravich PC

Hey All,

I just wanted to share the highlights of my Pete Maravich PC.

Over the past 5 years I've been changing my collecting scope from quantity to quality, only looking for low numbered or really rare cards of Pete. I'm in my early 30s, so 'Pistol' has always been sort of a mythical figure to me. My admiration for him started when I was really young when my father purchased the entire set of 'Homework Basketball' Pete Maravich VHS tapes. These were basketball training videos Pete had done after his playing career. I'd watch one of the handful of VHS tapes on a nightly basis and was always intrigued by Pete, though I had no clue who he was when I was getting into Junior High School and watching these VHS tapes. As I got older, I began learning a lot more about his basketball career and his life in general. He had lots of ups and downs in both. His joy for the game, and his joy for putting on a show for those who came to watch him, is what I admire about him most. My favorite quote from him is: "They don't pay you a million dollars for two-handed chest passes."

Anyways, I hope you enjoy a look at the current state of my Maravich PC. I will be sure to bump it with any major additions in the future. Thank you!

Do you have any actual cards or just shinny stuff made decades after he was done?

One and One is one fine set. That’s a beautiful card.

And don’t mind phish. He really wants people to know he hates shiny and more modern cards.

DrewTANG

absolutely spot on! And I shall continue to hate them as long as they are over produced marketed as rare under 100 different “brands” to steal kids (and older kids) money at Walmart-78 different versions of a 2023 mike trout 1 of 10 super rare

I find nothing unique or uncommon gem 10 a card that was produced 18 months ago-congrats you didn’t mess it up when having a breaker open the pack for you

I really enjoyed reading about the origin behind your Maravich PC. They look great all displayed together! Congrats and keep up the good work!

He really is a “mythic” figure in basketball history and a great subject for a PC. Looking forward to watching it grow.

I got this one in a trade recently. It came from another Canadian dude and I gave him a hockey card for it. Thanks Steph!

It is always great to see / read about how others find their lane in this hobby. With so few vintage basketball sets, I love how you have found a way to collect a legendary player within modern releases. I for one look forward to seeing more (either here or on Instagram) as your collection grows.

He scored 50 or more twenty eight times at LSU..
six times in NBA.
And back when there were no 3 pointers.

Was very happy to see his scoring record hold up this year vs the kid that’s played 14 ncaa seasons

Not to agree with PhishPhan21 but i also would've liked to see some of his vintage stuff, especially in high grade which would impress me more than the one million different variations of same card.

Definitely going to work towards adding a few vintage items. I have a few, but nothing in high grade worth sharing. I graded a handful of raw cards I had, here's those results (don't care about the grades much, just protection).

You do you man, pick up vintage stuff if you want or keep picking up the modern. Don't listen to elitists who want to dictate your collection based on their preferences. Collect what you like. You have an incredible Pistol Pete gold collection.

Amazing collection and hope you keep adding to it. That 1&1 gold is outta this world.

I hope he shows up in a future Prizm Draft release because I also love modern shiny cards and would love a nice cracked ice or holo LSU card.

Lots of supercollectors out there and some of these low numbered modern stuff are gone forever once they hit collections. Lots of vintage always available for when they want to dive back into his playing days. Even his rookie card is not rare and available all the time.
