Default 2 Hours 29 Minutes

Time it took for the Padres-Mariners Game

First game with Pitch clock.

16 Hits but only 5 Runs.

Looked great.

...and Spring Training games are notorious for running long! MLB will shave 20+ minutes off of games this season (on average). That's 3200 minutes of dead/wasted time back in everyones lives (per team/per season).

Machado with the first violation. I watched the video... do you have to be in the batters box by a certain time?

It was very enjoyable to watch. As a former pitcher, I lived by Maddux mantra to work fast. The hitter gets the advantage the longer you take between pitches. So I loved to see the pitchers working fast.

I also took note that both Soto and Jrod got singles in the first inning that would possibly have been outs with the shift.

Loving the new rules so far.

Schwarber gonna bat .477 this season without the shift. He crushes balls to the right side.

Oh boy, same ticket price, shorter time to spend at the park. Glorious.

Teams are going to start using utility type players as their left fielder and start shifting in the outfield as a way to skirt the rule.

I see you care about quantity vs quality. Just because its more time doesnt make it a more enjoyable experience.

How long until owners complain that quicker games limits their beer sales?

I'm all for these changes. Get so annoyed when a really close game in the 9th inning turns into a staring match for the pitcher only to step off and waste another 30 seconds of my life.

Surprised nobody has argued that 4 hours is the proper time for a game.

What happens with network and prime time games where have the stoppages are to show commercials? Are the networks going to sell less ads? I'm a Red Sox fan and once every Sox-Yankees game started taking 4+ hours because they were on Sunday night baseball or game of the week on Fox or whatever I lost interest in watching live games. I'm happy watching condensed highlights and seeing all the action in 10 minutes. Pitch clock and limiting mound visits will shave some time off but I'll be curious to see how long games are when networks are trying to sell millions of ads

Maybe they'll change the rules to sell after the current curfew. After the 7th inning or 10:30pm at Wrigley. Don't know the rules at other stadiums.

What does time between innings or pitcher changes have to do with time between pitches?

This is a long overdue rule change that will be great for the game and fans. The length between pitches was obnoxious.

Anyone against this would have been against the shot clock in basketball.

Or attendance will be up because there will be more action on the field.

Attendance in 2022 was at its lowest level since 1997.

Or just open gates earlier. Either could work.

I am sure lower attendance had nothing to do with the economy.

I'm just saying don't expect many 2 1/2 hr games once the regular season starts

Interesting idea…. But it’s much easier to hit an oppo fly ball than a base-hit-quality liner/grounder.

Dudes would be hitting inside-the-parkers every other inning.

The whole reason the shift worked is guys are extremely stubborn.

Teams will find ways to get as many players on to the right side of the field.

It’s not just stubbornness. Players like Schwarber or Gallo might be practically incapable of poking a single between third and short. But they can loft a ball toward the left-center warning track. It’s a different swing on different pitch locations.

And especially if a large swath of the outfield is left open, there would be more incentive to boost the SLG by popping some shots that way.

Here’s Schwarber spray chart. He would ground out like crazy hitting into the shift. But his contacts to the outfield are more evenly distributed, with quite a few flyouts to left.

This is really going to throw off Dodgers games here in LA.

Finally park after an hour in traffic and 40 minutes parking/entering the stadium.

Get to your seat and it's the 6th inning.
