Default 1999 Upper Deck Gretzky Jersey Auto

Any idea what the odds of pulling one of these was? I know it's /40 and in multiple products

Set Description from Beckett Database

These cards could be found in packs of Black Diamond, Upper Deck MVP, SP Authentic, and SPx Top Prospects. Each product had one version of the card numbered to 40 sets. The cards contain an actual piece of a game worn Wayne Gretzy jersey embedded in the cards and an authentic autograph.

I think these are still really undervalued being a playing day jersey auto extremely rare pull. Here's one I picked up last year at the Toronto Spring Expo....

Late 90s production levels probably isn’t that much higher than 2023 production levels

Amazing card btw. We all know what the hoops cards bring , but even an og Griffey (1998 second year jersey auto?) brought in a bananas number , so don’t sell this like it’s a normal Gretzky auto

Beckett only lists 4 sets but there is at least 7 sets for a total of 280 cards:

SP Authentic, Black Diamond, UD MVP, SPx, UD Retro, Century, UD Series 1

I can't find odds stated on anything however a few sites with the sp authentic hobby box have it at 1:287...

1:287 boxes? If that's packs that would mean only ~11k were made?

I think that odd was for a jersey card - 1:287 packs. I don't recall ever seeing odd for the Gretzky Jersey auto cards. 40 cards in 98/99 UD products would have been near impossible to pull unless you were lucky. Given how much UD produced and how many still unopened boxes of it exists, it would not be too surprising to have these cards still in the boxes...ready to be pulled by someone.

I agree but that is what several sites have (my guess a typo) because the multi auto packs were 1:288 as well.

Im fairly certain that regular game jersey were 1/case that year, which would be 1:288ish.

You are right but I don't think regular game jerseys were pulled from sp for example:

Randomly inserted into Series 1 and Series 2 packs at the rate of one in 2,500 retail and 1:288 hobby

I've also seen a few of these YOTGO jersey autos without serial numbers on the back, does anyone know if they were pulled that way or if they are replacements?

Only pack pulled had the serial #'s apart from the Black Diamond set ones which I believe had the missing serial #'s. IMO the UD Series One is the best version to land due to being such an iconic product.

98/99, I distinctly remember because this was the first product I broke after taking a few years off collecting during college. Seeing jersey cards in a product for the first time and thinking, WOW! Though I think these may have been 20 box cases, i might be wrong.
