Default Guys having breakout years

Figured it might be fun to talk about the guys who are having breakout years and changing their card prices for the better. Definitely doesn't have to be superstars .. can be any tier. I'll throw out a few...

Becoming Superstars:
Jason Robertson
Tage Thompson
Rasmus Dahlin
Jack Hughes

Emerging as a potential all-star
Noah Dobson
Charlie McAvoy
Dylan Cozens (playing on Buffalo 1st power play unit is gold)

Moving up a tier or two in collecting value
Travis Konecny (tbd on how big is the "someone has to score" bump)
Jordan Kyrou
Carter Verhaeghe (at 27 not a ton of upside, but dude has 26 goals this year)
Wyatt Johnston (once he actually gets cards)
Dawson Mercer (becoming a solid 2-way player at age 21)

And this years Chris Kreider award (30+ years old) goes to .. Zach Hyman

Who are some other fun names?

Not sure if it counts as a 'breakout year' but Andrei Kuzmenko's first NHL season is is likely beyond anyone's expectations so far with 21 goals and 43 points in 48 games. He's too old to be classed as a rookie so can't compete for the Calder.

Sorokin and Oettinger on the goalie side are having great seasons.

Miro Heiskanen and Charlie McAvoy, both 1D's trending up since they're putting up points now which is what gets eyes on them but they've been excellent for a while now.

For the first couple weeks I thought Andrei Svechnikov had arrived but, no, he's back to his career norms again. Feels like something more there to give but TBD.

Vince Dunn's having a nice season himself, he should get some love too.

Elias Pettersson's healthy and been great on a not so great team. ~100 point/82 GP pace right now so he should be setting career highs across the board this season.

Pierre-Luc Dubois is also a point per game player so far.

Just some highlights of some players I've enjoyed following, some breakouts bigger than others, some more so just cementing themselves as good/great players.

I feel like I have like 4 of his 2020-21 FWA's, so hopefully so!

I've thought since the day Toronto didn't sign him it was a huge mistake.
Definitely a guy who is not afraid to get into those dirty spots.
I purchased his YG card not because I thought I'd make bank on it, but rather because I liked how well he played.

Linus Ullmark is clearly the top guy having a breakout year.

For those of us in the cellar, I've noticed Mason McTavish cards steadily climbing as he gets more ice time.

Outside of Zegras there are some bargain Ducks right now with Drysdale out and McTavish still under the radar.

His YG is definitely trending up. I have 5 PSA 10 in hand and 4 more at PSA, WHICH I pulled everyone.

Ullmark's YG is up nearly 10x and his auto rcs are tripled amidst a potentially record setting vezina year so yeah, complete breakout.

The Sabres have several guys that fit the bill. Tuch has already hit career-highs in goals and points and need just two more assists to set a new mark there as well. Skinner is close to his career-best in assists and might beat his points totals. Even Casey Mittelstadt, who people still think is a bust, has been a revelation. He's hit career marks in assists and points while playing better two-way hockey than ever. He'll never be the guy we thought he would be when he went 7th but he's turned into a solid 3C.

He’s had 4 scoreless games in the past 20 games, did Kirill f*ck your mother or something? Did a gang of Russians gangbang your sister? God damn he lives in your head rent free so bad, you have to make bullsh*t up to talk about him, you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

Wow, very nice, Congrats!

Let me know when the PSA submissions comes back as I'll be interested to see how you did.

Dostal cards have been picked up here and there but mostly speculation. Remember a HG went a few weeks ago for over $150.

Anything serious with Tage? I see he is day-to day right now.

I haven’t seen/heard anything so I almost wonder if it’s just precautionary with the break so close.

I will do. Last time I went 3/3 and 5/7 total. Last time I sent 42 YG’s from 21-22 series 2 and went 37/42

15 total there currently in last 2022 sub.

I'm thinking the same.
We picked him up #106 overall with the #6 slot of our 20 team pool and he has been a beast! No way that anyone could foresee the season he is having.

He's played well but I would be willing to bet this is a career year. I know that's weird to say in his 1st year but his shooting % is beyond unsustainable.

Nico Hschier is another guy playing really well. Not sure he will ever do enough to get his cards to move much - 1st overall picks carry that bump a long time - but good to see him become a leader and solid player

I was expecting close to his performance last year, not completely blowing it out of the water but his chemistry with Skinner and Tuch has been off the charts.

I have a decent patch of him from Premier 17-18, it would be nice to see him get some success on ice.

they're not "young breakout players" but carolina has a nice group that's been on the verge for awhile. They're my pick at this point to win it all.

Should be a really interesting spring.
