Default Messi Wins 1st World Cup! Let's See Your Cards!

I picked this up last month at the Toronto Expo. I thought it was a good time to pull the trigger with the prices sliding. The last thing on my mind though was Messi winning the WC! I didn't think he was going to pull it off so late in his career! Just crazy!

Let's see what Messi cards you guys have ...

Even though the card market is getting hammered, it'll be interesting to see how this WC win affects his card prices. Will they rebound for a little while or will the slide continue?

probably a small bump today, and then continue to slide just like every other asset / market... probably for at least another year.

I expect a small bump and then a slide. It will be interesting to see what happens with Champions League in March, if PSG gets a good draw it might be a smart time to start buying.

Long term Im more bullish on soccer cards then anything else

I’ve only got two Sapphire and a few cheesy base cards. I think.

I am looking to buy a Messi Auto. Is this a good long term investment? My plan is to send it to ebay vault after purchase. Comes with ebay authenticity guarantee as well -

Sorry to break it to you but that's clearly the version that is signed by Messi's brother.

This falls into the "buy what you like category". If you like it, go for it. Personally, I would never buy a leaf product and think putting the funds towards something else would be a better idea. But you do you! Let us know how it turns out.

Really good points. On the bright side, it is one of leaf's better designs in the past several years.

That's actually one of Leaf's better looking cards, I'm impressed.

On a serious note I'm not convinced any modern footballers are good investments including Messi, (apart from maybe his panini sports rookie 2004 and some autos).

All these stupid numbered parallels and different color rc's....and more parallels...and different rc's to choose from. It all just screams mass produced scarcity.

Key word used was "investments." I and many others on here don't use trading cards primarily as investments. They are collectibles, a hobby, so I collect what I like and I sell other stuff to fund the hobby. It's nice when values on my stuff go up, but that's way down the list of priorities. The thought of using trading cards, especially soccer trading cards, as high risk investments is scary.

Had a couple Messi Autos from barca spots in Treble breaks I sold in summer 2020 for higher prices than I've seen them sell for this week.

These are the only two I currently have of his autos.

I got a couple IP autos from Messi when he was in LA with Barca a few summers ago (on jerseys, not cards, sadly). He was very willing to sign and take photos with fans. He seemed to always be avialable part of signings for some of the big auto companies at around 450-640US, an item the last year. I wonder if that will change, either in availability a la Lebron, Jordan or Brady and most surely in price.
