This makes the Michael Harris extension look even more team friendly.

This just came across my ESPN app notifications (can't read what the article was about on the notification) and I was like oh no, what did he do??

Good for him. Secure that bag!

I wouldn't classify that as team friendly. That's highway robbery.I am not sure what sort of advice Harris could have been given unless he is in debt to the mob and needs money quick. The Braves probably had to ask twice to make sure they heard right that he accepted it.

Getting $72 million after 290 MLB at bats isn't as lopsided as you perceive it to be.

He's making a heck of a lot more in the next few years than he would have.

I'd be curious to see the expected salary before free agency v what he makes with the deal.

I am sure the Braves will do right and tear that contract up and give him a new deal like the Astros eventually did with Althve if Harris performs.
By the time the deal is over, guys will be making $72 million a year. I suppose you get generational wealth by locking in, but he is going to find he left likely hundreds of million on the table.

Braves guys are only selling their first 2 years of FA short with instead getting a lot more money to play with during their renewable/arb years

Don't know how long Julio's contract is yet, but he still had 6 years of team control

Julio is 14 years. Mariners is buying out his prime year free agency. Harris is 8. He can be a FA in his prime.

This is not correct.
Their arbitration years would have been higher than what this contract is providing for Harris as an example. He would have likely made in the neighborhood of 45 million across his arbitration years if he keeps doing what he's doing. Not to mention they bought out two years AND have two team options. It's such an awesome deal for the Braves it's hard to really even describe.

Hundreds of millions? LOL. Do you know how many contracts have been signed in baseball history in the "hundreds(plural, so 200+) of millions"? It's about 25.

"Alright boys, 300 ABs, I've seen enough. Lock him in for a future value of $300 million". So many here wonder why prospect card prices go sky high off of minimal performance. This right here. This guy. There are thousands of him

Ten years if the team options are exercised.
He will be 32. Springer had trouble getting a huge contract due to his age, and he was one year younger than Harris will be. 32 is by no means entering your prime. Without the two team options it might even be a reasonable contract and leave him the window to sign one big contract, but they really hemmed him in.

Harris would have made around the league minimum the next 2 or 3 years before he hit arbitration. He'll make $15-16 million more over than time. All evens out by the time he hits he free agency time, with more money first few years.

Fernando Tatis got $340 million after about 600 plate appearances, so...

Harris could just as easily pull a "Kelenic" and never see the bigs again! As a Braves fan, I dont see that happening but you never know. The Braves sell winning, a great organization and life changing money...right now!

As they say, defense never slumps. GG center field defense for the next 8-10 years is worth his contract alone.

With options that could make it 20 years. Seeing reports that it sounds like it's a very complex contract structure wise.

No one is going to give Springer 10 years 300 mil anyway. He got 6 years 150 mil which is reasonable for him. If Harris is good enough for the Braves to pick up the last 2 years, then it is a great deal for the Braves and Harris will still have earned over 100 million throughout the contract. IF he is really that good, by that time, at age 32, he probably can still get 5 to 6 years at 200 mil+. But there is also a chance that he is only above avg. or gets hurt, then he is still guaranteeing himself $72mil. The Braves gave him a chance to secure a future and he took it.

Julio and Mariners agree to a deal!

Blowout wants to talk about Michael Harris instead… ok.

Happy to see the Mariners and Julio make a deal. Huge bet on both sides.
