The report that the Yankees were backing off was just smoke to try and get his price down (which was already too high to begin with).

Yanks only have 3 more games in Toronto in the regular season. Bigger problem is if they face Toronto in the ALDS or ALCS.

Technically they’re only giving up half a season of a good player that they had no chance of resigning after this year so might as well get something out of it. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing

Eh, he had 70 games left. Very good defense, good singles hitter, but he doesn't hit for power and doesn't run. I wasn't expecting the Royals to get much, but I would have been happier with at least one name I recognized though.
