Default 90s PMG Pumped To Ad Nauseam On Social Media

Anybody else sick of hearing 90s PMG owners constantly pumping and manipulating their PMGs via YouTube and IG ad nauseam?

Its the same old clowns you see on social media (disguised as OG 90s collectors) who claim to only collect "rare cards" targeting cards to be cornered with their "Good Ol Boys Auction House Buddies Club" with the sole intention to manipulate prices and maximize the value of their "portfolios" for financial gain at other's expense....

Just calling out these same shysters who graded mass produced / manipulated overpriced Pannini crap to quick flip and rip off newbies, consolidate to Prizm Gold and then manipulate / corner that market as well....rinse and repeat...for their own financial gain

It then gets recorded as a "Record High Sale" via Card Ladder to people gullible enough to not see the MAJOR conflicts of interest all over the entire scheme from start to finish.....

Just sick of the constant PMG group think pump when its only really all about money....just like the same Marvel PMGs manipulation crap over the past 1-2 years...why I now disdain them (mainly because of the constant social media hype pump) and why I recently sold off a the last remaining few PMG semistars I had...

I guess I associate them with the greed and scum of the hobby, not to mention have butt-ugly eyesores, and are probably the most overrated cards in existence...I cant stand them now actually...

I'm not sure whats worse, the greed of the hobby phonies or the gullible newbies that listen to these clowns spew their bias takes on social media...they really could care less about the cards, its just a vehicle of monetary gain aka exit strategy to them...

Pretty sad state of the hobby with these self proclaimed, social media "hobby leaders" at the helm whose only real hobby ambition is financial gain....

Im surprised nobody ever posts about these idiots, so sick of the same old dumb bias group think PMG push...

Yeah man....I get it....I get it...

Youre pumpin your PMGS yet again!

I mean if you're that desperate / hard up for MONEY, its really obvious and pretty tacky bro!!

I bet they have even slabbed their PMGs, taking the life out of one of the most exquisitely crafted cards ever produced.

Let me tell you the storied tale of Saint Abra (Patron Saint of Basketball Card Hobbyists)
And his consecrated word, forged aeons ago against those
Who had their hands up the ass of the Jordan card and PMG markets.

One thing is for sure, PMG's are the most overrated cards in the trading card hobby.

I understand the sentiment of this rant but this part wasn’t lost on me. You sell your remaining PMG cards which I’m sure went for insane prices and then proceed to trash the set/process? I understand having ones cake and eating it too, but if you benefited financially off of these hype men, aren’t you just really feeding into the system?

They had to move somewhere after the base pump, Prizm gold, Kaboom, colors blast, etc.. pumps all died out. Keep the money train going as long as possible.

I do agree that the red/green PMGs are highly overrated though. I have a few for completion sake of my nuggets sets, but they pale in comparison to the 97 championship PMGs. Which have been pumped to hell and back too now.. lol

I’ve also seen a few of those guy try to pump the corn flakes 08-09 PMGs. That one hasn’t taken off yet (for good reason ), but it’s not for a lack of trying!

Whenever this comes up I instantly think of The Great Curator on IG. “Pumping” has a tendency of being overused, but not in this case. Doesn’t get much more textbook when it comes to non-sports.

I sold them because I honestly don't or never saw what is so great about PMGs and don't want to be part of the pump brigade. I didn't pump my cards. I just got rid of them

I agree.
The pump about getting comic collectors to purchase comic related cards is most likely going to fall flat. Comic collectors generally enjoy the medium and getting a RC card / reprint of the first appearance cover image on a card isn't exciting at all for popular characters. There's a reason the Deadpool RC card exploded and fell flat so quickly.

Just as a reminder to everyone, PMGs caught fire after Nat vs. WeGotStock99, they were stinking up eBay all day before that happened and you could get them in triple and DOUBLE digits. Once certain individuals noticed big spenders throwing money, they became conductors on the hype train, circa 2010.

choo choo!

PMG pump has been in effect for over a decade, it's not a recent phenomenon. It really started to take hold and get notice outside the 90s rare insert circle once the Tim Duncan PMG Green sold for $2k on open auction. I remember talking to someone who owned a Michael Jordan PMG Green who had been away from the hobby and was looking to sell off his collection; he was shocked at how popular the card had become since Finest Mystery Refractors and the like had been the rage when he was building his collection.

I feel it successfully took hold because it is actually a substantive card. Not many would disagree that it's among the most eye appealing inserts and the limited release and unique designs is a stark difference to what we've seen in any other era of production. For other pumps like base rookies and kabooms, the fundamentals don't hold quite as well, so the shelf life will be shorter.

But you're right, many don't know what's going on behind the scenes to drive the price increases and the history behind that. It's not even the face level stuff of content creators "influencing" others with their videos, there was some deliberate price and commentary manipulation at play in the 2010s to help these reach the level they're at today.

What about the refractors pump? Cause we need to talk about that too and how long has that been? I kinda remembered a pump was going on in the late 2018, people were saying how undervalued Lebron rc refractors and gold refractors were, how undervalued the Topps chrome refractors of Lebron chalk toss card, Lebron vs Kobe card, and the final year of Topps Chrome cards, as well as the first year of Prizm. Honestly, I agree that the 97-98 PMG is overvalued, cause I can't agree that the card is more valuable than the 97-98 essential credentials, the 97-98 UD Game Used Jersey cards, etc, but I hardly consider the set to be the most overvalued set when I compared it to so many post 90s inserts and parallel sets. I love the 90s inserts and parallels cause they are nostalgic and represented the apex of card collecting during that era (almost every collectors coveted them), but that was not the case for cards made post 90s. The 2000s popularized auto and auto game used cards, and regular inserts and parallel cards were relegated to somewhat of a consolation prize rather than the main chase, but somehow in the 2010s, they were being pump by folks who are tired of the low end auto cards and think that these inserts/parallels are comparable to the 90s inserts/parallels.

Collect what you like and you don't have to worry about pump n dumps. I remember buying PMGs for $50 - $150. I also remember passing on a Jordan PMG red that sat on eBay for months at $500. But when money flows into the hobby, you can't bitch about missing the boat, which I think is what most of the "I hate PMGs" crowd is really pissed about.

They got notice after Nat and WeGotStock99 got into bidding wars, I don't know if the 2k Duncan green was before/during/after that.

There was no chatter about it being substantive back then until those two got into it, of course, back then, you could still see eBay user names. It only seems like many people find it eye appealing because of the pump and the money involved. Especially these days, you're not going to trash something you're looking to hawk.

2009 join date, surely you remember HK.

You should have seen Jun's 97/98 Gold Embossed Die Cut Atomic Refractor pump, legitimized by Nat's 18.5k purchase, which he then sold back to Jun on auction and Jun subsequently tried to peddle a copy of the same card for 32k+ on his personal website / store. Hyped up as rare and 'must have' - Jun had several copies to himself and there were copies that stank up eBay listed for MUCH lower and in comparable condition and wouldn't sell.
