Hi everyone. I'm trying to decide on sending about 300 or so cards valued at around $5-20 for consignment and was wondering who is better to deal with and the better result overall between DCSportscards87 or Probstein123? Thank you

I've been buying a lot of cards from DC over the past few months. Never had any issues. As far as selling through them I haven't heard anything negative in comparison to Probstein.

Neither , Ill sell my own. They could careless what your cards sell for and still take their cut.

COMC - why send it to a consignor if it is only $5-20 cards?

I am currently using COMC but these cards I don't feel like spending the .50 a card and having to price each one and waiting months or longer to sell all of them. Have done great on COMC but the low end cards are slow going that I sent in with the free submissions that were offered at the end of 2021.
Just want to send these where they list them and bod within a week or so and be done with it. |

I'm not even sure consigning is worth it now. The seller now has to issue you a 1099 if you meet the $600 threshold. At least that's how I understand it.
I believe consigning was not only used for the hassle-free transactions, but for tax evasion. |

Right. Far as I understand with COMC store credit is store credit and can be used for any other cards you want on the site. If you cash out and request a check then a 1099 is generated or same if you had them pay you out on Paypal. Otherwise it is store credit and not cashed out.
Not sure how DCSportscards87 does it since have not subbed to them yet. |

I guess we'll see after this year with the new $600 threshold. When the consignee deducts the payments as deductible expenses, that income has to be passed on to the consignor right? I don't think it was a big deal before as most wouldn't hit the $20K threshold, but with the lower amount, I would think the 1099 would need to be issued to ensure compliance.

Using DC for 1st time to try it out & don't want to create a new thread ... My Question is - How lenient are they on the rule "must send cards valued $5 or more or will be sent back to you" - Do they actually send cards back if last completed listings are $3/$4? I'm sending maybe 50-100 cards, don't feel like looking up all comps, a few may be $3-$4 last comps (prob wide range $3-$6). They won't care right?
From the website, seems all I have to do is print submission form - put it in box, and ship it off to them w/ cards. That's it? Nothing to do online or on website? Random Q too - Do you really have to send all cards in toploaders & sleeves. Have this 1 thick card I don't have a toploader for. |

I have never had a card returned for being below $5 and have sent a few that ended up that way in auctions. I'd avoid having the majority of the shipment fall in that category if you can. Your first submission form will log your email address and you'll get a login sent to that email so you can access your account on their site. It is by far the best and most intuitive consignors website I've ever seen. Toploaders - they do require them as far as I know. If you don't have one large enough how were you going to ship it? If it's not that valuable to of a card I wouldn't bother sending it. |

I think their $5 rule is $1 plus $4.75 shipping. They don't want to list a lot of stuff that isn't going to get bids. Their combined shipping rule is the best in the business, so that helps out a ton. Every card I've ever received from them has come in a toploader. I've got a few thousand extra if you need some....

based on the comments so far it looks like DC is preferred over probstein (I didnt see much love posted here about consigning to probstein) I think I will switch from probstein to DC based on the recommendations here!

Then go to DCs and see how user friendly it is. Why anyon would ever use probstein is beyond me. How you even submit to him is like some secret he hides. Eff him. |

Probstein also has a history of shilling their own listings.

Thanks to the above for the replies ^^^ I mailed off the package earlier this past week & it got delivered, as noted on the website. Vast majority in $5-$15 range, couple higher. A few have comps all over the place - like $8, $3, $5, $2 ... Others like say a random Demarcus Cousins parallel #ed /25 has no comps ... Cards like that I assume would still be listed. I'll see.

Probstein has the best rates of any consigner, his 5% commission on $1000+ is unbeatable.

Looking at it from just a consignment cost perspective and eBay seller fees chart, I’m not sure why anyone would want to list items themselves on eBay when for basically the same cost you could basically box up your items, send them in and get paid in a couple of weeks without having to deal with scanning, listing, packing, shipping, storage of items, customer emails/questions, returns, scams, etc etc. yes of course you might run into some consignment problems like I did with loss items, etc but I feel OVERALL it’s a lot less stress free process than doing it yourself, especially because your not really paying that much more for someone else to do it. Do you see any “real” benefits of listing on eBay yourself vs sending in for consignment services?
