i'll admit that i haven't followed the NHL as closely as i did before, but Tampa Bay is a dynasty right now, and Stamkos is the conductor of this train, yet he gets no hobby love.
why is that? because he's never won league MVP or anything like that, compared to guys like Crosby or Ovechkin or what is it? because it's Tampa and not Montreal, Toronto, or Chicago? i pulled his YG years ago from a pack at Walmart, and checked up on it yesterday on eBay, and it's a fraction compared to what Crosby and Ovi for go. his Future Watch is about $9500 cheaper than what Ovi goes for. i know Ovi might break Gretzky's scoring record, but Stamkos had a career year, scored two goals in Game 6 to send Tampa to the Stanley Cup Finals, and is 4-games away from winning a 3rd straight Stanley Cup. Where's the love?

He's undervalued but he's not conductor of the train.
Tampa won two cups and he was mostly deemed disposable during those runs. His playoff numbers are actually weak but playing decent this year. He can win 5 cups and it won't be enough for anyone to care that much. All players from 2006-2012 are underpriced. Huberdeau sold higher than him playing on Florida with no cups or awards. Figure that one out... After every cup win his yg goes up then drops back down to original price. Conn Smythe would help but he won't win one. |

He is 19 goals from 500 at age 32, looks like a 650-700 goal potential.... People will care soon

he's the face of the franchise and when he's healthy, he's scoring 40 goals a year.
if Tampa wins a 3rd straight championship, i don't see how the best player on the best team just sits there with a YG rookie for example, that's at $150, when compared to some of these other guys.

Stamkos is HOF lock.
600+ goals is very possible. for now just buy cheap and wait for people to wake up. |

Several reasons:
1) He plays in a warm-weather city in a football-mad state 2) He plays in a warm-weather city in a football-mad state 3) He plays in a warm-weather city in a football-mad state Or to put it another way, there aren't very many Lightning fans outside the state of Florida...... |

His fwa is always one of the highest selling ones from 2006-2012.
He'll never be ovie/Crosby and young players are overvalued so you can only compare him to someone like Patrick kane or malkin |

Does seem a little curious as he's a semi-star player with great talent. Did he ever have any unflattering stories come out about his personal life, or any other factors that would cause fans to take a pass?

Hard to say exactly why but his prime was a decade ago and the TB market isn't exactly massive (not small but not massive). He's not been in the hobby eye for a while now either and it's hard to build value back up. A lot easier to start high, stay high, and keep it high. He scores 40 perenially when he's healthy and gets a full season but he's not in contention for Rockets or other awards anymore.
The 2, maybe 3, Cups are nice but he's also not been that guy in any of the runs. Kuch, Point, Hedman, and Vasi all have or had greater contributions so most of the media attention goes to them. He's got a lot of stuff you'd want in a guy who eventually gets some love but until then, he is what he is in the hobby. |

If half the people who claimed a player is undervalued actually bought that player's cards, then they wouldn't be undervalued anymore. So is the case with just about every "undervalued" player. Some players are great but people just don't want to collect them.

Brady/Lebron were cheap for years even after winning championships. "Collectors" are dumb and they'll be buying Makar or whoever is the flavor of the week till they wake up years later. |

Have to remember that this season was the first season in 14 seasons he has reached the 100 point plateau. What moves the meter in the hobby is 100+ point seasons and hardware. Kucherov has more (2) in only 8 seasons. If you want superstar C status, you need to have 4-5 of those type of seasons on your belt;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...-point_seasons Is he a good captain? Sure, and he is a guy that everyone would like on their team. But in a league that has McDavid, Matthews, MacKinnon, Crosby at Center, he is playing in big shadows. Conn Smythe the past two seasons went to Hedman and Vasy. So if they win this year, is it a coin flip between Stamkos and Kucherov? |

Mackinnon has zero 100 point seasons and most likely will have zero for his career...
Matthews has one. All 100 point seasons after 19-20 don't count the same anyway. Just covid jokes. |

Pastrnak has zero 100 point seasons...sells for more...
Keep trying. Don't compare old players to new players. Only compare 2006-2012 in the same scope. |

This past Expo I went around the room and bought every decent Stamkos YG I could find. Ended up with only 8. There was a lot of damaged ones.

If he wins a 3rd cup, sure, his values should go up. But if he doesn't - 2 Cups and 2 Rockets doesn't really jump off the page compared to some of the other players of his era. He'll be a HOFer, but there are plenty of HOFers whose cards don't demand high prices. You can buy a Mike Bossy RC for less than a Series 1 tin.

i know he's been beat up, and he's not playing in a big market, but he's still the face of that franchise, a No. 1 overall pick, and 4 wins away from a 3rd championship. he's not Malkin playing 2nd fiddle to Crosby, he's the guy (yes i know they have Hedman too). he just seems terribly undervalued compared to some other players. maybe like K13 said, it's about the flavor of the month? i know Ovechkin was really cheap for a long time, but now i think he outsells Crosby doesn't he?
