Default Do you feel sorry for Jimmy Clausen PC collectors? Cam Newton #1 pick to Carolina!

With the draft being 3 days away, and almost all mock have the Panthers selecting Cam Newton with the first pick. You have to feel the pain that all Clausen PC collectors are gonna feel this week. I understand that as fans we latch on to certain players to collect. Most of us collect players that are stars or superstars where there cards keep a steady value. Even the collectors that have massive collections of players like Taylor Price, they wont be in the hole to terrible if he flames out. The problem with Clausen collecting is that his cards were going for star prices and only 1 year later his cards could go down drastically in value. Sucks for them, but I do feel there pain!

Now is a good time to collect Clausen. Hopefully he gets traded somewhere that he'll get a chance. I still think Clausen will be a good QB in the NFL. In college, he struggled his first year and as he got more comfortable, he was very good in just a couple years.

He'll get his shot. Carolina is retarded though for taking Newton. That is now what I refer to as VALUE when you just took Clausen last year in the 2nd.

And that folks is why Carolina is picking #1...stupid organization.

It's easy for you to say how stupid it is and how dumb they are until you actually have to make a decision like that. It would be hard for anyone to pass on a guy like Cam Newton with the 1st pick because he has butt loads of potential. I do agree that it is very hard to determine how good that he is going to be but I don't blame them for wanting to take a shot on him. In todays game you have to have a franchise qb if you want to be successful.

What potential does Newton have? The type of QB that he is has never worked in the NFL. Clausen has much more upside. Newton is not ready for the NFL. Soon we are going to be putting him in the same catagory as Ryan Leaf or Tim Couch.

If they can't unload Clausen before the draft, Carolina should draft a defensive force on the line.

Cam is not a 'can't pass' talent even if he can turn it alright in the pros.

Feel free to explain what "the type of QB he is" means?

Hmm, gee, a spread offense QB, would rather run first, not very accurate, inexperienced, off the field/candor/integrity issues! He couldn't even verbalize a play call for Gruden! Whoever picks him will be sorry! I say Clausen has more upside!

Newton has the potential to be incredibly good, but will he reach that?
Clausen I think will at best become a Chad Henne. Solid, but not great.

I collected Carolina Rookies since 07, and I will not collect Cam Newton AT ALL. Please do something smart for once and don't pick Newton.

I think this issue is still racial at this point, if not racial at least social status. Newton comes in with issues, but the least of them are his ability to play the position. Claussen has not shown anything. Not at Notre Dame, not at Carolina. He is a huge waste of talent.

Physically Newton is a #1 pick, mentally he is a 6th rounder. He could not even name one play in his interview with Gruden they ran at Auburn, he just said well its simplistic and we look at a board with numbers on it to call the play so we all stay in sync or something to that effect. Sorry, but you failed the mental test Newton. Love the talent, but the brains are not there.

Nothing racial about it, newton has the talent, and zero for brains, his social status or skin color have zero to do with it for me personally.

There is no way this is racial. The guy is not a good QB. The learning curve is going to be too great. He is a run first QB and that does not work. How many rings does Vick have?

in no way is this racial..... are white people saying Ryan Mallett would be number one but racists are using his character issues against him....

both Newton and Mallett are MONSTER upside type players, huge potential, both have character issues as well. But Newton is still going to be picked in the top-5 and Mallett is going to be picked probably in the second round. So if anything, isn't this reverse racism...

I am so sick of ignorant fools playing the race card anytime an African-American athlete is brought down, the guy is a one-year wonder with a horrible track record, Vince Young, JaMarcus Russell, how'd those quick-hit wonders turn out.... oh yeah, how did Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, JP Losman turn out....

There is a way he could be that big of a bust. I made the comparison just because they are/will be both #1 picks.

I lump Cam Newton/Tim Tebow all in the same category. They will be in the spotlight for a few years then fade to the roll of warming up the bench.

What is all this trash talk about Cam Newton. Nobody should ever compare Newton to Russell. They are (2) completely different QB's. I guess everybody wants to throw his past season stats out the door. The guy threw for 30 touchdowns & rushed for 20 touchdowns and even caught one with both feet in! I mean the guy is a freak of talent and honestly he's a bigger version of Michael Vick. We were all sucked in what Vick did this past season. I don't see why Newton with the right coaching and the given the talented group of role players..he will be good QB. Give Newton a year to sit and learn and let him play.

Looks like a good time for Clausen fans to stock up.After Cam flames out maybe Jimmy can come in and do something.A lot of great QBs played better after some bench time.Who knows he could be another Steve Young or Rich Gannon.

saw this on gruden camp, this is what would scare me as a team. Could of at least said something or make it up. he is going to have a rough rookie season if the lockout holds teams without training camp

If he can't even call a play what about making changes at the line of scrimmage?

Peyton Manning makes more calls at the line than in the huddle I think.

But no fear, QB's get to have the plays on their wrist. Problem solved.
