It does happen more than you’d think. The below card is actually Warrick Dunn; while it is an authentic signature of Kez McCorvey it is not in fact an authentic picture of him:

I believe the photo is Eddie Kennison since Priester was a RB who wore #27 in his Skybox rookie from mini camp

This photo os of #42 Corico Wright, not #40 Andre Branch

I’m sure this happens a lot more than collectors realize. In 2012, I was curious why the Branch was wrong and found the wire service photo and it called out the wrong player leading to their error.

This is Brandon Bolden, not Kenyan Drake. Who to my knowledge has never had dreads.
To Panini's credit, this was a touchdown from the Miracle in Miami game, because Bolden's only two touchdowns as a Dolphin came against his then former team.

This has been happening almost as long as there has been sports cards.

This is Jim Taylor. Just not the right Jim Taylor. If you wanted the rookie card of the Hall of Fame Packer running back, you would actually get a picture of the Chicago Cardinals linebacker.

To add insult to injury, Topps used the same wrong photo the following year again.

Until finally getting it right in 1961

I have seen that Tim Brown card literally thousands of times and never even noticed it. I have over 100 of these from Set I broke sitting in a plastic box and never even noticed it WOW blows my mind.
