Default Barry Bonds UD Epic Signatures Century

I just submitted my first 5 baseball cards for grading. Ever. Probably at one of the worst times in history, cost-wise. I thought $100 per card was unimaginable, and then it got way way worse from there. Another story for another time...

This was the one triumph of the sub, the only card deemed mint. I know that this forum tacks a little older than than certain social media platforms. So I figured the card might get more appreciation here. Did I just call you old? Maybe, but if so, only respectfully!

I understand that Bonds was a controversial player who draws lots of strong opinions. Remember, though, that even in 1999, he was in the Albert Belle-most-hated-players-for-mostly-media-related-reasons category and yet he was considered by well-respected historians at The Sporting News to be already the 34th greatest player of all time. That all time ranking formed the basis for the base cards of the set. So, again, he was regarded as the best active player in the game...before any credible whiff of controversy.

Next up was Maddux (39), Gwynn (49), Henderson (51), Clemens (53), Ripken (78), McGwire (91), and Griffey (93). I think Gwynn and McGwire were a tad high there, personally. What do you say?

Anyways, I only realized today that the numbering is 034/100, so I think that's pretty cool since it matches his ranking. If I could have any card graded a 10 out of 10, only the #25/100 would've been sweeter to have in this specific set.

Of the total population graded with PSA, only 10 cards across all players, in the more limited /100 parallel Century (gold) set, were awarded a PSA 10...of players that were completely pack released. Berra (3), McCovey (2), Bench (2), and Fisk were released partly in packs and partly as redemptions, which would likely lead to better conditioned cards since many were never packed out and instead just sent directly through the mail. Just a cool little wrinkle for anyone who likes to look at pop count patterns.

Questions for you knowledgeable historians - is that Tigers Stadium back there? Who's standing on the mound? What year was that picture taken?

If this is TL;DR, I got a cool baseball card graded. I really like it. Thanks for looking!

amazing card here - thanks for sharing! tip: add a lowercase "L" right before ".jpg" in the code to make it a larger thumbnail size.

Thank you all for your kind words everyone and for the tip @daeve! @pnft, do you know if LED lights are ok since they emit very little UV? I’m pretty careful about keeping my cards in the dark but sometimes you want to look at them and have them out, you know?

That is an amazing autographed card and a psa 10 to boot makes it even more delicious!

Oh yes, the empty bubble mailer guy.

At any rate, great Bonds card - with or without the grade.

Nice choice in players to collect. But if this is your video, that's terrible. I'd say suspect but the entire situation is. 1. It's not THAT easy to open one of those flat rate mailers. 2. You can tell if there is a card in there just by the weight it adds, especially in a top loader, did you think he taped it on just in a penny sleeve? Either way, I still dont even know what Bowmans Best Bonds card is worth $3k

Thanks for stopping in with the well wishes, folks! As for the stadium in the back, I saw Comerica, so I thought there was a good chance I was looking at old Tigers stadium. I checked the dimensions and it seemed to match but it never hurts to have an expert drop in and confirm. Is this Ty Cobb’s home in the back?

You have to enjoy how he acts like this is the very first time someone’s questioned his shady video.

At least he’s dedicated.

The way he talks about Barry certainly gives off “Stan” by Eminem type vibes.

bold to say on a day when the Yankees sealed documents are getting opened up.

Ortiz cheated and is in the hall.

Astros org cheated. Yankees cheated. Shall we keep going, or can the pitchforks for Barry cool down?

Think it has more to do with the fact OP spends most of his time here writing long winded essays defending Bonds and he pulled a scam itself.

Yeah I get that - I haven't delved into the OP's sins yet, but just sick of the Barry slander around here when it seems like daily news that entire organizations can, have, and probably continue to cheat. And in worse ways than working on their bodies. I think what the Stros and Yanks have done is far worse for the game.

You really can't unpack the fact that you don't like me from accusing me, without a shred of doubt, and without a shred of evidence other than what you think you know from a single video, of scamming someone? That's really low, man. Do better.

I show my face in my videos. I'm not some anonymous handle spinning conspiracy theories. If you really cared about what happened, you'd reach out to me rather than throw shade directly at me by acting as if you are having a conversation about someone else. If you really cared about what happened, you'd talk to folks who know me or who have dealt with me IRL.

But you don't care what happened. Even after you asked me about it once - I assumed in good faith - in another thread and I told you what the status of everything was. And you even offered your condolences.

But you just want to throw bombs on the internet. And I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with that.

I guess just explain the evidence in the other thread like how you couldn’t tell the box was empty or why it already looked to be opened before you opened it on camera.
