Default Did Mosaic overtake Optic and Select for 20-21 and beyond?

Call me crazy but I think Mosaic is knocking on Prizm's door. I just counted 43 parallels for a single Lamelo rookie base card, and ~23 of them are various shades of blue requiring a near photographic memory and Mensa IQ to keep them straight. Who finds that appealing? Get dizzy imagining all the PSA labeling errors that will be generated as a result. Besides which, the Mosaic /10 and /15 parallels objectively look better than anything in Prizm. Right? Right???

No, not at all, not even close.

Interesting use of the word "close." So what's your favorite non-numbered blue Prizm parallel?

I'm saying it starts with the 20-21 season buster. This is my working thesis and it doesn't work retroactively.

Courtside is just one of the 3-4 tiers in a standard Select release, correct? The Select tiers are more inscrutable than blue/green prizm parallels ime.

I actually agree that they have a good chance to overtake select. When you consider the number of parallels in select combined with the 3 "levels" of cards it makes rare/desirable parallels way too common. For example, in 2020 select Lamelo and Edwards each have 60 total Golds:

Concourse True Gold /10
Concourse Gold Disco /10
Premier True Gold /10
Premier Gold Disco /10
Courtside True Gold /10
Courtside Gold Disco /10

At least with mosaic you only have true gold and gold disco. Plus I also hate how select has a bunch of random die-cut parallels, gross.

In my opinion, it goes:
Prizm
----Big Gap----
Optic
----Gap----
Mosaic
Select

Is that any more damning to Select than the base, nba debut, and national pride in Mosaic? At least the different levels of Select all hold some value.

1. Prizm
2. Optic

3. Select

4. Mosaic (though, I'd put some chrome products from Chronicles ahead of Mosaic some years)

I think most can agree that Mosaic is above Flux though.

Mosaic will never be better than Optic or Prizm.

Maybe it will pass Select soon, but Im not a big fan of either.

Select was awesome then became crap. And I own a Select gold of my PC player.

Optic had potential...

It's really Prizm at number one and then who cares. I don't even care for Prizm either.

Mosaic is over-produced, mid level Drek compared to Prizm, Select and Optic

Mostly horrible opinions from bitter people with their own agendas in here as per usual

The answer in my opinion is;

In terms of ripping, retail specifically Mosaic has already overtaken Optic & Select. Genesis & fluorescents are better and more south after than anything "pullable" in Optic & Select.

Also Honeycombs were put into Football this year along with a few other desirable inserts like Glass (called stain glass in basketball) so I wouldn't be surprised if that stuff is added to next year's Mosaic NBA retail which will absolutely make it worlds better than the other 2 retail SKUs

For "chase" cards, Optic checkerboards don't seem to be as sought after as Genesis and the 1/1 checkerboard autos are obviously a needle in a haystack. Select NBA has numbered stuff, but they seem like weird parallels (multicolor green & blue, etc) that haven't really taken off and no one really knows whats what in terms of chase cards as there are just too many different parallels for each SKU. Again, I believe there are 1/1's that are desirable, but another needle in a haystack.

In terms of base RCs/silver I think Optic does the best with Select second I suppose. Retail really hurt the Select singles market drastically. Courtsides/Courtside silvers just aren't what they used to be anymore imo. For Hobby Select has been the premiere product and best RIP, but those prices are astronomical and the base stuff/silver stuff gives you virtually no value add now with Retail being a thing

I am not bitter sir and OP was talking about the products as a whole, not just retail.

Mosaic hobby has got to be one of the worst products and rips in the entire hobby. Total garbage - no case hits, one #'d card per box, zero on card autos.

In terms of retail, Mosaic genesis are cool now but won't have lasting power once people realize they have a 200+ print run. Checkerboards will prevail with a print run of < 50.

You also forgot to mention Optic pinks /25 (base and autos including on card rated rookie autos) in your retail comparison which are some awesome chase cards in cello packs. Rated rookie base autos and rated rookie Holo autos can also be found in all forms of Optic retail - all on card autos.

Genesis look nice but theyre unnumbered so their PR is likely in the 300 or more range. If 19/20 Mosaic basketball is close to 300 then 20-21 must be closer to 500.

Honeycombs are also unnumbered parallels that are likely not really rare and SP.

Wouldn't even be surprised if 2019-20 Prizm was printed more than both.

Prizm is still the chrome card king. Undisputed.

I personally prefer Mosaic to both Optic and Select. Select has really fallen off and the shift to retail really cheapened it as a whole. Optic does seem to be significantly more popular than Mosaic with most collectors though.
