Default [Insert Your Team Here] Mt. Rushmore

The one good thing about the lockout is that it gets the MLB Network and MLB Network Radio straining to come up with things to talk about.

Right now, they are trying to decide the Mt. Rushmore of every team. Some are fairly easy, but some require real debate. I thought it'd be interesting to see who people would put on their favorite team's Mt. Rushmore. Doesn't necessarily have to be stats leaders or HOFers (or even players), but the four people that come to your mind when you think of your favorite team.

For me, I'm a lifelong Braves fan. The four names that I'd put on the Braves Mt. Rushmore are:

- Hank Aaron
- Warren Spahn
- Bobby Cox
- Dale Murphy

The first two, Spahn and Aaron, are fairly easy picks. I chose Bobby over Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz/Justice/Chipper because he was the connective tissue across their record-breaking run in the 1990s and early 2000s.

I chose Murphy because, when I first started watching the Braves on TBS in the 1980s, he was Braves baseball. One of only six NL players to ever win back-to-back MVPs.

Phillies

-Ashburn

-Utley

Edit- only 4 and have to keep utley over Rose....due to total impact with the Phillies.

Hard to argue with those 4. First three are locks (especially with Ashburn's broadcasting career). Utley would be my pick too, but arguments could be made for Rollins or Howard over him as the face of that run. Robin Roberts would also be in the mix for some people.

Each was an unexpected hero that haunts the memories of those they destroyed.

Eddie Mathews Started his Braves career in Boston, played all the Milwaukee years, and ended it in Atlanta. He is the great link for the franchise.

Lots of really good old Phillies that can be argued. Leaving Hamels off is tough too to be honest.

Huge Braves fan and Dale Murphy fan but….

I think Maddux and Chipper belong on the list and both considered all time greats at their position so for me it would be. Maddux is consistently considered a top 10-20 all time starting pitcher and the n many top 5-10…hard to argue with him not on a my Rushmore for Atl

Spahn
Aaron
Maddux
Chipper Jones

Ooh, interested to see what other Tigers fans will list here.

Cobb and Kaline are no-brainers.

I'm gonna go with Tram and Cabrera as the others. I think good cases could be made for Verlander, Newhouser, Greenberg, Gehringer. I know: how can you have Tram without Sweet Lou, too?

Dodgers

Jackie
Sandy
Fernando
Garvey (don’t laugh, he WAS Dodger baseball for a solid decade)

If we are talking about an enduring legacy in Dodger blue, these 4 are pretty much cemented.

If we are adding raw stats and/or hardware to the mix, a strong argument could be made for many others (Duke, Kersh, Campy, Pee Wee, Gil, Piazza, Drysdale, Sutton, et al):

Maddux just feels too much like a hired gun for me to include on my Mt. Rushmore. If players only, I'd definitely include Chipper instead of Bobby Cox. I can certainly understand anyone choosing Eddie Mathews over Dale Murphy.

The Blue Jays Mt. Rushmore is what got me thinking about this, as they were the team being discussed on MLB Radio.

IIRC, the Mt. Rushmore they came up with was similar to yours, but with Carlos Delgado instead of Tony Fernandez, but Fernandez was definitely in the discussion.
