Default Good News: I found my 1970s Kellogg's. Bad News...

Will likely try to slowly flatten some (I'll try the commons first) in thick top loaders and binder pages. Hoping some of these beauties will be flattened without any cracks, but I know that's nearly impossible.

Any tips would help a lot.

Just go slow, no need to jump to flat.

Let them relax in a hot shower???

Seriously, though… maybe let rest in a hot humid room before you try to insert into loose fitting top loader? Then move to a dry room to remove excess moisture?

tbh I'm worried about chrome cards bowing too. How will Topps Chrome or Prizm look in 50 years?

This, or even wait until the summer to leave in a warm garage

That extreme bowing is super common for the Kelloggs cards.

maybe try a hair dryer on one of the commons. might be able to soften it up a bit before trying to flatten it out. Back in the day, this is how we fixed warped records.

Two of the most challenging set-building projects I have ever undertaken were building crack-free 1970 & 1971 Kelloggs Master Sets (i.e. with all variations).

Good luck!

They were stored poorly, in a garage, and in its own box. I tried putting 3 commons in card savers, cut the corners. All 3 cracked.

Here is my first attempt:

I am likely going to try binder pages next. If that doesn't work, than hairdryer might be a move.

Here's a better photo of the sharp curls:

Default Curling

Just curious if anyone has had luck with flattening any of these cards?

I found a complete 1974 set. The cards look pretty nice except for the curling.

Good luck. I tried everything I could think of to get them to straighten without cracking. Nothing worked

Hairdryer
heat gun
steam box
vinyl conditioner on the plastic part then the above methods

I ruined about 15 cards. I still have rolls of them just sitting in a box, because I haven't figured out what to do with them and I'd hate to toss them.

Don't know if the cost would be worth it, but I had an art restorer deal with a similar issue on a piece of artwork from my parent's house that had been rolled for decades. He was able to salvage the piece. No idea if the same processes would work on cardboard.

The problem is the plastic coating.....you can flatten the cardboard without too much difficulty. But flattening the plastic coating without cracking it almost impossible when they are bent that much.
