Default 2012 Prizm Golds Thread

Yes there are other gold threads. This is specific for 2012 Prizm gold talk and I didn’t want to have to search and make sub topics on the others.

What a wild night last night for the 7 golds that were on bids. I had a lot of “high”bids in all of them and can’t believe how high they went. $770 Fitzmagic? $880 Justin Tuck?

$8000 for Watt PSA 10!!!

$1900 TGonz PSA 9

Insane. It looks like they are starting to get caught up to hoops. Could have been a little shilling going on but I high bids close to all of those except the Watt.

I was picking them up for $20-$150 raw for the longest time. I regret not going higher on some of the big ones I missed out on last year. Also sold my Eli Manning PSA 9 too early I guess ($2k).

Shoutout to TJforce as I really started to buy into them two years ago when he was one of the few who basically called this. Now I’m sitting on a good amount of them with Moss currently sitting at PSA. No Brady, Peyton or Rodgers but some pretty solid names.

I had no idea bunch were up for auction. Who was the seller?

I'm going to assume there will be 2-3 guys attempting to do the set, thereby increasing prices across the board. I know for me, it's the ultimate PC grail card.

mc_sportcards

They look like a consigner.

I haven’t researched the bidders to see about shilling but I agree with you on the set collectors. These went well over expectations.

I can tell you that I follow them religiously and they get scooped up usually within 30-45 minutes of getting listed if they aren’t on auction and not completely overpriced.

I thought some of the bids looked a little suspicious but I'm not an expert on shilling.

It will be interesting to see if any get re-listed.

The golds in this set are beyond my reach but surprisingly the red die cuts/greens/silvers on most players are still reasonably priced.

silvers: 2 per hobby box, 1 per retail box
red die cuts: one per hobby box (none in retail)
green: two per retail box (none in hobby)

someone correct me if I'm wrong on the seeding, but I think the red die cuts are really undervalued, given they were seeded one per hobby box and were not included in retail.

I think as the gold continues to rise the colors will follow suit. Probably not as aggressively but long term they should hold decent value. They are absolutely SP and will be part of an iconic year/set.

Die Cuts always seem to be less desirable across the board IMO even though I personally like them.

Ahh there it is. Amazing. Anxiously awaiting for one of these to hit a big time auction house (not in my price range). It will further elevate the set. You’ve been following much longer than I have but last night was a nice vindication for searching/buying these for the last two years.

These are the ones I have

Frank Gore
Alex Smith
Nnamdi Asomugha
Mike Wallace
Vernon Davis
Michael Crabtree
Kendall Wright RC

I have recieved offers on all of them. A monster offer on the Gore. And very, very nice offers on the Davis and Smith.

I am holding for now.

I also have 55 2013 Golds and 40 2014 golds. With a bunch of stars and HOFers in both years.

Awesome collection there. I just said to my buddy we should probably started grabbing 2013’s now that the 2012s are elevating.

2012 Asomugha I haven’t seen come up in a long while. Gore is definitely the big one there and rightfully so.

Hold hold hold. They really are becoming harder and harder to find.

Very nice cking. That's an impressive number of golds for 2013 and 2014.

This is the same thing that happened in basketball, just a few years later.

Both of those parallels are so SSP'd. I know they're not at the top of everyone's mind to sub for grading but here is the pop report for Rodgers' 2012 Prizms:

Silver: 13
Red: 5
Gold: 3
Green: 2

Since we're coming off of the junk Prizm years (2018-2020), when you say "retail," people think of overproduced junk parallels. For 2012 and 2013, though, that couldn't be further from the truth. Retail back then was an afterthought of an afterthought. As a longtime Rodgers collector, I have seen as many gold prizms as green prizms - that's how SSP'd they are. Same goes for the red, it's just that the color match doesn't work for my PC.

I was watching the greg jennings BGS 9.5 (no subs). It went for a $1009 with 26 bids. One bidder had 95% of his bids with the seller, another had 59% with the seller. Not saying there was shilling involved but even for a gold that seems like a high price.

like I said, I will be looking for any possible re-listing.

I finally had a little time to go over the bids. To be honest they all seem legit to me.

The bidder you are referring to has a very small history of bidding this month (20 bids total) and most of them were on 2 of the 7 golds. So his 95% bid rate makes a lot of sense.

If you dig into the rest it really looks like it's between 2 bidders for the majority of them. Both has less than 5% bid rate and both with tons of feedback.

To me it looks like 2010GBPackers called it right. Two serious set collectors jockeying for key cards.

The same guy won 5 out of the 7 as it shows the winning bidders feedback at 1336 for them.

Yeah, I really feel it's going to get insane. You'll have a few set collectors plus multiple PC collectors for the Super Stars and Stars, all fighting over possibly 7-9 copies.** I suspect prices will reach PMG status soon.

** I say 7-9 to account for the number of cards most likely still in packs.

Agreed. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got close to a million either. Just never know but it’s absolutely one of the best Brady’s you can have.

I do think I’ll move to silvers now that golds will start to become more unattainable. So many quality HOFs in that set they will be great long term.

I saw the Greg Jennings went for just over $1k...very surprised about that! Think I bought mine for about $20 in 2014-2015. I got the black for around $50 in 2016. Still looking for that darn Orange Pylon 1/1 to complete the rainbow!

That’s sick!!

I’ll keep my eye out on the pylon for ya.

Packers definitely nailed it above. Set collectors and PC collectors will swallow up a good portion of these and they’ll continue to become more rare

Thanks for looking closely.

Like I said, I'm no expert on shilling so I appreciate another set of eyes.

Yea my only 2 trains of thought after seeing the winning price was, Shill bidders or Crazy Packers collectors. But after seeing what the others went for, I suppose that's the going rate for these now!

I had no idea the less desirable players (not Brady, Rodgers, Manning) jumped so much!

I've been a Brady fan since 2002... but didn't get into his rookie stuff in time to get a major piece.

This is my one iconic, impossible to find item. There's not another card of equal or lesser value I would trade this in on. The only reason I would have to move it would be if I were cashing out for a life event.

*I also have a big connection to my 2002 Topps Super Bowl MVP Patch Auto... but I feel like I could at least find that card available again if I wanted. If I ever move the Gold, it's gone for good.
