Default Who’s going to the Industry Summit?

The conference next week may be the most important event in determining the direction of this hobby. All the major players, present and future, are scheduled to attend according to the website.

Anyone going?

This is not an event open to the public right?

For dealers, shop owners and such only as far as I recall.

The main meeting is for dealers, manufacturers etc. There is also a card show prior to the conference that is open to the public.

"Hello everyone, thanks for attending the 2021 Industry Summit. You have been the shrinking backbone to a hobby that is trending away from brick and mortar stores and distributors for year now. The Industry Summit thanks you.

I'll keep it brief.

The direction of the hobby is Fanatics.

The bar is open."

I'd pay to attend if I could watch Topps, Panini and Fanatics fight it out in an alley, Anchorman-style.

Here's a few names/businesses that if Beckett cared about the industry, wouldn't allow to attend.

I think it used to be hard to get in if you weren’t a shop but I think it’s easier now

If you wind up attending could you please post any pictures or information you learn? I expect that we may get some idea of Fanatics plans for future production.

Ken Goldin on Twitter said he would figure out a way to stream the entire thing (he said this in a way like this was absolutely not allowed) because he said collectors deserve to know WTF is going on & happening.

This will be interesting to watch.

As was somewhat mentioned, the After-Summit discussion in the bar would probably be more interesting. Particularly the 2nd hour of such.

We used to attend the show when it was known as the Kit Young Hawaii/industry summit show back in the late 90’s- early 2000. Attended again a few of the various shows over the last 20 years Vegas and PHX. Lots of freebies and always interesting talk about where the hobby was headed. This years show should provide some real interesting details.

Attended the virtual event last year. Very informative, as others have said, great freebies for the shop, won some prizes. With everything going on in the world and how busy the shop has been were taking a flyer this year, but will recieve play by play from other shop owners on all the news. Should be interesting.

It's not a hobby, it's an industry. It's all about money now. Hence, the industry summit.

If I can get finished with stupid paperwork I'm gonna head down to the Westgate to check out the "show" for a few.

You think Fanatics will make a big statement there?

I feel a better venue for that would be at the National.... In a room with a bunch of LCS owners doesn't feel like the right moment, imho....

Are legos a business or a hobby? It’s both. Same as cards

Am sure it will be the primary topic. Luber is headlining a panel on Tuesday with Goldin and some others, have to imagine we get some type of info

Same as everything, really. Any hobby that relies on a company is also a business, and an industry.

Ex: collectibles, video games, music, anything with a middle man supplying what others enjoy, and what they consider a “hobby” to themselves.

Personally, I think it’s really idiotic of people to say “wah, it’s not a hobby anymore wah”
