Default Mac Jones Quasi-Hype Thread

Watched his highlights from Pats-Eagles last night, and he seems to be gaining confidence with each passing week. His throws are on target, he's moving through his progressions, and his pocket presence is solid.

No rookie quarterback is without his faults, but is it too soon to be excited about this guy?

Is he considered a Class of 2021 "sleeper" pick, with most of the attention going to Trevor, Trey, and Fields?

Sound off -- what say you?

Meh…the Eagles head exactly zero starters in last night.

Very fair point. Figured I'd fire up this thread so that we can start discussing his high- and low-lights here, going forward.

I'm definitely planning on picking up some of his rookie stuff once Optic/Prizm releases.

I'm all in on Mac! All of the above is true PLUS he fits the Pats system like a glove. He'll be the starter by week 5.

He’s in New England and drafted in first round so it won’t be a sleeper pick. Hate to say it but Cam looked decent against the Eagles starters. Eagles looked terrible

Check the record on BAMA qbs before you go spend your hard earned $$ on M.Jones... He and Tua are probably the first 2 that weren't "bus drivers" but he is far from a "sleeper" pick up as the hype has his cards way up in price right now.

I'm all in on him. He's highly accurate. DeVonta Smith didn't win that Heisman alone. Jones will be the starter by next year, if not before.

You are right, Alabama QB's have done very little since...well, since Ken Stabler/Joe Namath really.

I do, however, get a different feeling with Mac than I did with the likes of McElroy, McCarron, Hurts, or even Tua, etc.

It seems he has the right combination of tools to win at the pro level moreso than any of the aforementioned recent Alabama guys.

He's in the right situation with the right coach. He's probably going to sit this year behind Cam, but you never know what BB will do. If he's cheap enough I might spend a dollar or two ala Jordan Love.

Bummer. Well he looked solid vs the 2nd stringers. Curious on what the Eagles plan is then? Only play players in the last preseason game? Some teams are going to come out flat to start the season.

I like Mac and hope he succeeds but if I was to guess his career arc i would it will turn out similar to Rick Mirer.

Pats fan and happened to pull a 2/2 auto from a Prestige mega. I'm fully onboard the "go Mac go" train.

Rick Mirer? Shots fired, haha!

I'd like to think Mac's trajectory could be more like Rick's fellow '93 draft classmember, Drew Bledsoe. But I won't get ahead of myself...

Even bigger shots fired. Drew Bledsoe was trash. You want Mac to die?

What do previous Bama QB's have to do with Mac? I've never understood this theory.

So Patrick Mahomes should've been overlooked, because TT QB's were never successful in the NFL? And Bama had a vast change in offensive philosphy in recent years, going from a more old school attack (QB managed the game, relied on run game and defense) to now an aggressive attack where the QB is being asked to do a lot more.

They've got 2 starting QB's in the NFL over the last 2-3 years.

With Bama it’s mainly that there’s usually 7 draft picks on either side of the ball. So it’s the talent around them. I doubt there’s much talent on Texas Tech. So let’s hope Tua and Mac change that tune.

Considering what his RC's are going for, I can't consider him a "sleeper".... the market is wide awake on him.....

Yeah, to be clear, there aren't going to be any discounts on Jones's stuff. First, he's a first-round QB, which is always going to command a premium. Second, he's on a good team that is capable of making the playoffs. His hobby value will be high unless he completely flatlines.

It is encouraging to see all five of the first-round QBs having glimpses of staying power. Jones was, per most draft pundits, the most ready for week 1 action, and accuracy is one of his biggest strengths, so it doesn't surprise me too much that he has adjusted to the pace of the game.

Lance looks like the most inconsistent of the five so far, but that was to be expected.
