Default ** Alternate RC Connoisseurs **

Any other Throwback Thursday, On Demand, Topps X, or 582 Montgomery Club appreciators out there?

Got back into the hobby in 2019 and was drawn to these pretty quickly...mostly Soto/Acuna/Tatis stuff. Many of the designs are really beautiful. And since most have small print runs and low gem pops, it’s a blast chasing the big name RCs and the guys I PC.

I’ve got a ton of these at PSA, but here are a few of my faves that I’ve actually got on hand.

Curious to know what drew others into this particular niche in the hobby market? Please share!

Might be my fav set design of all...simple, crisp, and clean. Plus it’s the first ever Monty Club

Classic design. That blue on blue is a great look.

Definitely the big dog in my alt RC collection. Wish I had bought this one sooner, but I did gobble up a bunch of the other Soto/Acuna dual RC logo cards this past offseason.

Very nice! i have some. the key for me is Topps not screwing up the font when they reproduce the old designs

What percentage of on-demand/direct from Topps cards get 10s?

I think it varies from set to set. The B&W, 3D, and Dynamic Duals all gem at 80% or higher. Other sets like the 'Inspired by 1978' are in the 50% range.

But I'd say, in general, the on demand sets have a higher gem rate than the average throwback thursday sets. Those tend to see edge chipping and OC issues a bit more often, from what I've seen.

I’m a fan. Love the card stock, designs and low print run as well. Here’s a few from my Acuna collection.

Great cards and thread! I am a big fan of the Throwback Thursday series and many of the online only sets. They are often better looking than hobby and retail sets, and are usually much cheaper!

Several of these are among Acuna's best RC logo cards, IMHO. I feel like Acuna is the one who brought hobby attention and price growth to the Throwback Thursday sets.

Call me crazy, but I still think the super low pop Acuna/Soto/Tatis/Vladdy RC logo cards in the TBT, Monty, and OD sets are way undervalued. I find the idea of accumulating quantities of flagship RCs kinda boring given these options.

I really dig that A-Team Ronnie. Hard to find in a 10. And that Ringside Tatis is the only Tatis in the Monty run I don't have. Grrrr!

The A-Team cards are SO hard to find centered left to right. Only thing that saved mine was the perfect top/bottom centering.

I've got two more Ringsides at PSA. If one 10s I'll let you know and we can work out an amicable arrangement.

I need that 55 Bowman Tatis. I love simple cards, and that's the first time I've seen it.

Thanks, that'd be cool. I finally found one on eBay at a somewhat reasonable price last weekend. Snagged it. Two days ago I get the dreaded "sorry we don't actually have this in stock" message.

if you (anyone reading) would like any of the cards shown here, NOW is the time.

eyeballs inbound, prices UP

(not a slight on the OP at all, as i think its a great idea for a thread)

Thanks, glad it can be a resource. I spent a lot of hours taking photos and building the showcases. Sadly, they are not growing due to PSA shutdown right now. Need to see what future pricing will look like to decide how much of the backlog to get sent in for grading.

HUGE fan of the TBT series! I started picking these up in the summer of 19’. Was a pretty under the radar way to get key rookies for cheap off eBay for a while. Always looked forward to the new design each week until they killed it this year

Here’s a small sample I’ll post more in a bit.

The Tatis is an SSP and just sold for $250...Vladdy is in the same set
