Default Ebay selling question? Am I wrong here?

I've been selling on ebay for almost 20 years now and this is the first time that I have had someone get mad about this or even say anything about it for that matter, so I wanted to get some opinions here. I don't have a pc, so everything I list is done from my phone app. I usually just find an item like mine and click sell similar item, then list it. Sometimes I change the title, but sometimes I just leave it because I am listing several things and just want to get them on quickly. Some guy on ebay recently messaged me and was upset because I listed a similar card as his before his auction was over and used the same title (It was essentially the same card, a white box 1/1 but different color). I used my own picture and even listed it at a higher price with best offer. He said " Don't piggyback my listing and copy and paste my title. I pretty much told him that I will sell my merchandise whenever and however I want and will not let someone dictate how I do business. Am I wrong for feeling this way?

I wouldn't sweat it, eBay basically encourages this by giving you suggestions through the app.

Lol you're absolutely not in the wrong, who cares if you copy somebody's title, at the end of the day every listing has the same info (year of the card, player, set, etc.)

I know someone copy and paste my title except his item got sold, mine sold at lower price than his I find it funny that someone copied my exact title, but I didn't care and didn't have a problem with it.

You don't automatically get a copyright when you create an eBay title. If people listed their cards accurately, most listing titles would look the same anyways. Year, Set, (Parallel), Name, Team, Number, (Grade).

OP, ignore the seller and do your thing.

I didn't think it was a big deal. I didn't literally copy and paste the title but when you click sell similar item, it fills in everything. I personally don't care if someone used the same title as me because it's the same card. I actually thought I was being courteous by listing it higher and letting his auction play out.

Much ado about nothing. He's just being sensitive. Probably had a bad day or is just a complainer. Either way, you did nothing wrong. Ignore him and move on.

But did you copy his fire emojis and "PSA 11??? REGRADE!!! HOT" trademark? because that's actionable. In a parking lot outside the Walmart of his choice.

Move right along. Almost all of my listing titles are used from previous sold items. Why take the time to make a title when you can use someone else's? If it was soooo bad then ebay wouldn't make it soooo easy.

Ebay doesnt care that people reprint cards and sell them so you're good.

I probably would have said sorry about that and capitalized one letter in the listing. Not exactly the same and nothing to worry about

Its only wrong if the card is different and youre trying to deceive buyers.

I honestly never use this feature since half of the listings have incorrect info or terrible errors. dont be lazy. take the time to fill out your own info to make sure everything is correct. most of the time, everyone elses titles are crud and filled with keyword spam anyways. ive seen people copy my auction titles to a T, including being so lazy as to leave the serial number in the title of my card when theirs is different. I see it as laziness and completely inattentive.

make your own listings, with your own title, how you want it. take the time to make it yours. when I'm a buyer, I think at least, it can go a long way. shows you put time into it and made it yours. not just some canned junk you clicked your way through.

Yep not wrong. I use "sell similar" allllll the time to quicken listing items. While I do mostly change the title a bit, sometimes I don't. Whoever it is has wayyyy too much time on their hands to care about this.

Lmao. Never once in my life have I ever thought about buying or not buying a card because of the effort someone put into the title.

Dude, my bad...I was in a hurry. Your wife kept me too long that night and I was late getting to your Mom's place. I didn't have time to make my own listing.

There had to be something very unique about it then because I've copied titles for years and no one ever said anything. There are only so many ways you can say name, year, set, grade...

I do this all the time, I search Sold listings, look for the one that sold the most, or the title that has the most information that I like to put in my title. I copy, then might make slight changes, like not capitalize ever word, or move the players name first.

I once sold a hockey card and found it relisted about a week later. The seller literally copied and pasted the entire auction from the title, photos and the description. Not a single alteration or change. It was my exact listing, only thing that changed was the seller. I kept watching it as it sat there with no buyers. I eventually gave up watching. This was years and years ago, if it had been today, after a few weeks I probably would have had an open return case lol

Just ignore him, pretty sure lots of people copy titles and even descriptions if they are generic cards.
