Default 1929 Churchman #25 with Babe Ruth picture

Curious on this card and why it seems to be all over the place with ending prices. For example a PSA 6 ended tonight @ $760, but it clearly was an error on the PSA label indicating 1930, see below.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/35348620872...rdt=true&rt=nc

This card has always intrigued me, curious if anyone can provide some insight. I've seen 6's sell well over $1000.

Great card, that one that was mislabeled was a total fluke. Someone got a hell of a deal on it. I've been watching these closely the last few months and auctions have been up over $2500 for a 6. I got a 6.5 as a best offer for $1000.a while back It was about 5 min after it posted one morning and I threw out a lowball that was accepted.

I think fair pricing right now is somewhere around 1500 to 2000 for a 6 but like you said this fluctuates.

Not really a baseball guy, it is literally 1 of 2 baseball cards I have but I have always loved this one as it is iconic of the game and probably the most affordable Ruth card from his playing days.

Another one just popped up in auction. Looks like PSA got this one labeled correctly.

I'm not familiar with this card. Is there a backstory on the card or that actually being Babe Ruth?

It's commonly known to be him. Most popular player at the time . Grading companies have actually been known to put his name on the slab. PSA ran a story about this card saying it's unmistakably him.

Thanks for the info. Is this supposed to be from a certain image or game?

That I'm not sure about. People seem to be convinced it's a Yankees home game which looks accurate to me.

Interesting thread.

I was also wondering if this was proven beyond a reasonable doubt, based on many believing this was also Ruth for many years?

It is pretty safe to assume that the card did not sell, but the buyer was the consignor protecting his investment.

The photo used in the Churchman seems to have also been used in a Japanese version that indeed indicates Mr. Ruth is pictured.

For sure! Good article.

Yeah the other 25 cards in the set are pretty interesting too. I'm not sure but I believe it also contains the first hockey card ever produced. The football card is beautiful too.

Never really thought about that. How does that work? Can't ebay tell what's happening or does the guy literally buy it and eat the ebay fees/taxes?

Buyer requests cancel... and there are much earlier hockey cards, including 1909 Murad T51 set with Rochester:

Good to know... shady stuff.

Ah yeah, got the Murads confused with these. I'll stick to football!
