What's crazy is the Alt ads I keep seeing have been stating that the BGS 9.5 purchased for $1.8M is now over $5M. I just laughed and went "okay?".

Now this BGS 9 is clocking in at $5.2M privately. Okay?

Liars and thieves. This is a fake sale and no one should give it any credibility. Twitter and IG are of course going nuts already -->eyeroll<--

With the /99 going for $1.7 million this weekend, I am not shocked to see $5.2 million for the /23 (though I would have expected more of a 2x gap than a 3x gap between the two RPA's).

Rich people have too much money. Cardboard for $5 million makes me sick to my stomach.

"private" = unfalsifiable claim
"brokered" = we really didn't do anything
"5.2 million" = buyer could get a better grade right now for 5.2 mil
"pwcc" = that says it all

That is an interesting take. Probably wrong, but interesting none the less.

For some people, if they can't find it on eBay's "sold" listings, it didn't happen. In fact, there are no private sales in their minds; they're all fake, manipulated sales. The issue is, there is some truth to this. People across the collectible spectrum create fake sales at times to pump up their market, but to these people it's 100% of the time. Typically, these folks are not able to have nuanced discussions on a wide range of topics.

Could it be a "fake" brokered sale? Sure.

Is it? Odds are, no.

I'm sure if it was your card you'd feel a lot better.

That signature is absolutely perfect. Many of his RPAs have a very "lazy" signature, but Lebron took the time to sign this card.

We really have no way of knowing. We know market manipulation is rampant in this industry/"hobby" so I'd actually wager that the chances of not exactly "fake" but manipulated sales are higher than most would think or hope.

Just like the Luka sale, I mean...you show a copy of an invoice and a photo and we just take your word for it? I mean come on. I could do that if I wanted to amongst friends.

I have no doubt that big cards go for large sums of money, but I would hope any sane person takes any private sale with a grain of salt unless you actually see a video of it like Sasha.

Most people I know do not want the sale price of major purchases disclosed. I just have to wonder about these posts..."Look at my buddy's 4.5 million dollar check for my Luka!

"Look at this 5.2 million Lebron!"

They can literally say whatever they want. No one really knows.

Side note: I just sold a Robert Swift RC Auto for $230,000!

I’d take retirement and an oceanfront mansion over that card 100% of the time, 100% of the time.

Sweet sale!! Thats some serious coin for a sports card.

Lets not get sports card collectors mixed up with "FU Money" people here. They are very much different. You cant compete with "FU Money" people. They are in a league of their own. These are the people who publicize record sales and what they pay. Its socially driven.

I agree it is hard to prove but how are you supposed to confirm? Bank account confirmation? If two rich buddies want, they can deposit that money into each other's accounts only to just write a check for the same amount the following week.

We all know the market has gone up like crazy from like 3 years ago. I'm sure some of this stuff has been shilled/manipulated/etc... but I've also seen some dips in the market along the way, which I think is a better sign than just stuff going up up up.

In a real market, you'll see these dips.

There is a Lebron Exquisite RPA altered thread and there were many members including myself who did not trust a private sale of Lebron exquisite RPA/99 BGS 9.5 for 200K three years ago. Many were saying the same thing (bolded part) at that time. Fast-forward to now, a BGS 9 sold for 1.7 million at Goldin auction yesterday. Whether one believes it or not, we will find out if it is a smart purchase or not in the future.

I don’t trust anything in the hobby anymore. This could be all BS and a way for PWCC to
gain notoriety and free publicity before they launch their off-eBay auctions.

Again, unfalisifiable claim. We are more than able to have nuanced discussions, but a lot of times claims are made without any way of defending them. I don't have data on the number of fake deals because records of those are not stored in a convenient place. You don't have data either than suggests most sales are real. At the end of the day, both sides have speculation to rely on and it stinks for the industry as a whole.

Which didn't happen in this case. pwcc is pushing the media noise on this sale, not the FU money people.
