Default Finally picked up this Ruth Jersey card for PC, been wanting it for a long time.

Been wanting this card since it released in 2005, back then I was still a poor college student and couldn't afford to shell out the $1500 or so going rate back then. Since then I have either missed out whenever it got put up FS for not so ridiculous price, or I didn't have the funds available at the time. Finally found a seller who was willing to part with his at a fair price and I just got it back from getting it slabbed at Beckett. I still believe this is the only Jumbo Ruth Jersey card that actually states on the card that it's Personally worn by Babe Ruth in an MLB Game. The newer Ruth Jersey cards all feel shady as all they said is something like "This enclosed piece of memorabilia is guaranteed by Panini, or Topps etc" Nothing about Ruth actually wearing it. I was also told by a friend that this was still piece of the 1925 Jersey Donruss bought at auction in 2003 for $264k. They made the Jumbos Swatches cause they had to use it up since they were about to lose their MLB license at the end of 2005. Anyone know anything about that?

100% Correct. 2005 Absolute was LOADED for that reason!

Thanks for confirming. I always wondered if the newly made Panini Ruth Jersey cards were actually game worn by Ruth. Panini doesn't even state it was worn by Ruth on the card.

What a year that was for vintage DLP memorabilia stuff.
Beautiful card!

I wasn't collecting actively in 2005 but I did buy my first high end hobby box of all time trying to hit the Ruth. "Hits" were a new concept to anyone who left in the early to mid 90s when you could only afford low end stuff. Amazing card, congrats

$4000, I'm actually kinda glad this card now only costed me a little over 2x what it went for back in 2005. Unlike lots of desirable cards nowadays thats like 10x or more.

Welcome to the club! I was also a poor college student when these released. It was tough to find work after graduating, so I didn't buy mine until 2012, about 2 months after I got my first job. Seller was in Hawaii and even included a box of Macadamia nut chocolate! I was collecting the set before of just the retired players, but sold off most cards after getting the Ruth. The other card that was high on my wantlist was a 2001 SP Legendary Cuts Jackie Robinson cut. Had a chance at one in 2009, but I chickened out after getting my car towed. Ended up adding it in 2012, several months after the Ruth. I eventually got and sold a second ruth.

Here's scans of most of the ones I had in my set:

I didn't see the Ruth there, so I attached my old scan. It's been in the safety deposit box for several years.

Extremely limited cards with high serial numbers are true gems. Consider yourself lucky to find one available nowadays. This is probably the last card in my collection I'd ever choose to sell. And like you implied, it's massively undervalued.

Nice yours have 2 pinstripes. I wanted one with 2 pinstripes but at this point I'm not gonna be picky.

Yeah, that was a priority for me at the time. I wasn't going to mention that, as I believe all of these are awesome. The cards probably showed up a few times a year back then, so if you really wanted one, you could get one. And they haven't gone up much in value either, so you're really lucky. I attached the other one I owned.

I met a friend on ebay through building this set, and he informed me that he wants to share his Ruth Jumbo too. He's only working on the Reverse (blue) set, and unlike most of the rest of us, is still going at it! He's down to mostly 1/1s at this point, though there are also higher numbered ones that rarely surface that he still needs. He purchased his card graded before I bought mine and has had it ever since:
