Wow, two Trout base rookies that gem could almost pay this off.

I guess I don't get the hate regarding how others use their money to gamble a bit.

I'm just mad they already bid it up so high with almost a month left.
The box of Allen Iverson, Peyton Manning and the older 1950-60 stuff is what caught my eye.
What I've learned from buying bulk lots like these is to never trust the writing on the outside of the box lol

I wonder if they would let you sneak a peak in a box or two since this price is astronomically higher than the usual storage unit auctions.

That Benard Gilkey / Ray Lankford box sure would be fun to see.

Boxes labeled "Dan Gladden" and "Hubie Brooks" don't bode well. But then there are the boxes labeled "53 Bowman Color" and "1963 Fleer Complete Set" and "65 Topps". Real curiosity there.

Would be funny if every box is empty and a person bids all that and finds them empty.

Online storage unit auctions are I went to tertiary auction houses for my antique business. Someone could easily right "1952 Topps complete set" on a box and no one would be wiser.

Aaron estate sale box could pay for the whole thing several times over. But if it’s already been combed through by the owners or employees at the storage place, it could be a giant financial disaster.

There aren't any.
The person who owned this unit stopped buying cards about 2003-2005.
I agree though, let people spend their money how they want.

I was telling my wife after watching Storage Wars a super sleazy way to make a bunch of money is to open up a storage locker. Sign up for a year and pay two months up front. Take a bunch of old 800 ct and 5000 ct boxes and start labeling them with catchwords that would make a card collector intrigued, like "1996 Chrome Basketball." Pepper in some empty boxes of popular issues. Grab a bunch of binders and put labels like "Jordan Base," "Jordan Inserts," "HOFers - 1930s," "HOFers - 1950s," "Basketball HOF rookies - Top 100." Buy some crappy reprints of Jordan rookies, Mantle, Ruth, etc. and put them in 80's style screwdowns and plastic holders, and put them in one of those 80's style glass cases in the back of the locker. For about $500, you could probably assemble a tableau that would look like a $1 million+ find. Then, just stop paying your monthly storage bill. After 6 months or so, you are $500 in arrears on storage fees and they will put it up for auction. Go ahead and show up at the auction and watch the scavengers go crazy for the potential of what is in there. Since they can't go in or touch the items in the locker, their minds will go wild with the potential value of the lot - and cannot really scrutinize the rare cards in the back of the locker. Watch the semi-knowledgeable folks bid it up to $50-80K, thinking they have one of those legendary scores. Once everything settles up, the storage facility settles up what is owed ($500-1000) and is required by law to return the remainder of the proceeds to you. Suuuupppppeeeerrrrr shady and I would never do it, but there is not much anyone in the process can do about it. The poor sap that bought the locker will be in for a very bad day after they pay their bill and start sifting through everything.

Seems like a good deal and would be fun to go through. I mean I'd rather have this than a case of 2020 Optic Football for roughly the same price.

Thanks, I didn't look all that closely....I just figured there was SOMETHING like that up for grabs if the price was climbing so much. And it looks like there still is with the vintage.

Is that a 2000 Victory football set in that one picture? If it is, you got a Brady rookie in there.

But this seems so random to have "Derek lee" box and 1965 Baseball box.

It’s baseball.

In most states, the storage facility only has a lien against the property in the locker up to the amount owed for back rent and costs. So, once you fall in arrears, they can auction off the contents to settle their lien for what is due, but any excess collected from the sale of the property is returned to the tenant (the owner of the property sold). So, if you owed $1000 in back rent, and the facility paid $500 in commissions to auction off the unit you set up, but then sold the contents of the unit for $80K, they would deduct the $1500 in back rent and costs from the $80K, and be required to return the $78.5K in excess to you.

That's illegal though, and I have. Funny story to go with it.

A 3-row box of Adam Dunn should really cover the 15k cost by itself.
