Question BGS mislabeled, fake, or something else?

I recently purchased a card on Ebay that I'm hoping someone can help me understand the grading on. The card is a 1987 Panini #168 Holyfield / Diaz Beckett graded 9.5 and the registry # is 0001611345. When I do a search in the system it shows the card as being real, but the numbers are wild and it is not categorized correctly as I can't find it by going through the set lookup. I have contacted Beckett directly 3 times now and each time have received the same response, which is a copy of the record saying there are over 20,000 BGS graded cards from this year. Are there really 968 copies of this card graded higher than this one or am I looking at something wrong?

Any help is appreciated!

My guess is that it's not categorized by sport. The cert # looks up like you mentioned, but then clicking the links within the list of the pop report doesn't go to a page like you'd expect. Something is definitely wrong with the pop report.

Beckett’s registry and database are both pretty terrible. There’s clearly some sort of database error at play here where the card isn’t categorized as it should be, potentially because it was graded so long ago. If it were me, I would enjoy the physical card and not bother trying to get Beckett to fix the website/database error.

I got a early BGS slab that says another card in the BGS registry. The card is real, graded correctly, and the slab wasn't tampered with so its just a database error.

I have early quad 10's with a gold label (no black label at the time). Also, have some graded cards that are not in the pop report that were grade long ago.

This is good to hear! With so many altered, fake, or otherwise floating around these days I wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam. Thank you!
