Default Which card is more valuable?

2003 Panini Sports Mega Craques #137 Cristiano Ronaldo Rookie Card – PSA GEM MT 10

2016-2017 Panini Noir Cristiano Ronaldo Spotlight card.

A 2003 Mega Craques sold for about $210,000 yesterday. Only just a year ago the Spotlight card probably would have sold for more. I am not sure though the new investors in the sports card market cares about a Noir Spotlight card as much. They are looking for PSA 10 cards.

All these "new investors" are only interested in PSA 10s. Meanwhile, all my collector friends just keep scooping up BGS slabs at discount prices. They can have their psa 10's

The RC is way more iconic and important. Top 5 all time card.

Not sure about CR, but a lot of the BGS Messi’s are trimmed or graded 2+ higher than PSA equivalent based on my experience crossing.

Well it's not like PSA has never slabbed a trimmed card.

People are buying the label, not the card.

Agree with this 100%.
Saw this the other day seems like it was trimmed.

This grinds my gears.

ALL of the card companies grade trimmed cards.

The RC is easier to manipulate the market and launder your money so I'd say that.

A friend brought up the point Ronaldo could sign more Spotlight cards tomorrow. RC is the answer.

This is not really an outlier - you can look across many of the newly expensive / hyped PSA 10s rookies (MJ, Kobe, LeBron, CR7, Messi, etc.) - all of those were outsold by high-end Autos and Auto / Patches until pretty recently. Way easier to create a somewhat liquid market with high-grade rookies (and completely agree that the overreaction on PSA 10s we are currently seeing is quite ridiculous from a collector standpoint)
