I was able to pick up 2 unopened boxes over the summer for about $35 each. Yielded some good cards that I will grade.

Looks like the Serena rookies are being gobbled up. Two of the /100 rpa are sold as well as many of the regular rookies. Just a matter of time before the other two are sold to investors. With all the crazy prices happening, Serena was so underprice considering she is probably the most famous female athlete and probably the Goat.

What's the story with this product becoming hot? I have a set of the /500 autographs I might need to dig out if the prices are crazy.

I picked up the Serena /500 autograph a couple years ago. Really cool to see this set get some popularity, it’s a pack-pulled auto RC.

If this is true then the /100 jersey autos and /500 autos are really underpriced since there are loads of standard cards in comparison.

not really sure why we are seeing a spike now to be honest, investors realizing some of the tennis greats are undervalued compared to other sports ?

I bought a box of the US stuff on a clearance rack in 2016 for like $9.99 just for fun and it's somewhere around, not sure exactly where. But crazy that people want these now.

Considering how popular Tennis is worldwide, it’s more surprisingly how little interest there had been in these cards in the past. Serena, Nadal, and Federer have each won 20 or more Majors. That’s kind of like winning 5 Super Bowls. Not to mention Djokovic who could wind up with the record.

If you spend a couple minutes looking at the Pop Reports, especially the limited stuff, you can see why prices are roofing. This is probably just getting started.

Take a look at 2003 Netpro International Series RC's as well. It was the higher quality product that included the RPA's of Serena and Federer. Very difficult to find unopened wax of this stuff at all, if you do it sells for much more than regular 2003 Netpro.

There's a lot of movement out of the big 4 sports and into golf, tennis, and other GOATS in different sports. Michael phelps, Ali, and other names are really taking off too.

I'm seeing some of the earlier cards in tennis jump too - particularly 1970s/80s panini.
Pre 1950s.. not yet.

They made a Glossy Version of the Base Set that they sold in Factory Sets limited to 5,000. Although it only goes 1-85 instead of 1-100. (Edit: They also use a "G" numbering system for the Glossy cards. So the Nadal Glossy is "G-70" and the Base Nadal is "70").

Also they made an International Series. All of these cards have a Glossy Coating but sometimes people call these cards "International Glossy".

I had/have a lot of 50 cards serena williams rc netpro, that was sitting in a 400 count box unsleeved. I pulled the 10 best I thought would grade well.

I got them back in September sadly 6 PSA 9 and 1 PSA 8.5, and 3 PSA 8. But since the card has gone up even psa 9s are over $100, and PSA 8 are around $50. So not bad for bulk submissions. All are sold.

So I am going to send in another 25 cards and hope to just get PSA 9's.

If you can pull a PSA 10, of Serena or Federer it is great money (mine dont have a shot). The 2 tennis cards I am also sending these days are the TOPPS Ginter Serena and Federer, since those are Topps branded, and may be less Pop.

Netpro boxes, are not bad buys if you want to open and grade, but the Glossy and international are hard finds. But I can imagine probably alot of these regular 2003 netpro boxes sitting around Card shops 10-20 dollar bins still, if owners have not checked prices recently.

What would you say were some of the things keeping them from grading higher?

I bought a box over the summer and opened it - have a bunch I'd like to send in too.

The paperstock is not great and the full bleed photos you can see the white edges or white corners come up really easy.

If you see the rough edge, probably wont get more than a 9, But if you do get some clean ones, sleeve fast topload fast.

Centering is hard to judge, and the backs are more black than anything so just look for white showing on edges. Good luck on grading!

I wish the Anna Kournikova cards got some heat due to nostalgia more then performance credentials. I bought a "lot" of 100 of her cards from the 2003 release and have them now burried among my commons somewhere in storage, but if it became worthwhile to dig out, it would feel like a treasure hunt.

I need to revisit my Net Pro stuff 'tho, as I think I have the glossy factory sets sealed in a case where if you bought a case you were guaranteed an Anna Kournikova autographed (on card, not sticker) signed card, but I never opened the case.

I remember Blowout Cards put cases of unopened boxes on clearance a long long time ago when they used to have good bargain sales and I want to say boxes averaged between $3-5 per box because there's no "inserts" (no memorabilia nor autographs) in the release, just base cards. I know I bought a case and was giving boxes away to friends as stocking stuffers, but might have some left... now that they're selling well, I need to dig 'em out and see what I actually have if anything.

Part of me wonders if it's a temporary surge from the 2020 sports card frenzy or does the 2003 release have sustainable legs to not only hold value but continue to rise.

I bought it also because it replicated the 1986 Fleer Basketball and the 1980's Donruss Golf, as a sports card debut of a sport not supported with trading cards that inherently contained the "RC" First Cards of so many players. I thought it was overprinted 'tho and would never carry interest, 'til I read this helpful post and thread.
