I have been on a mission to open some 1990's boxes. I opened a 1990 Hoops the other day and ordered a box of 1990 Fleer the same day. May order some more this weej.

If the cards have been stored and stayed in room tempature 70 degrees over 30 to 40 years i imagine everything will be fine. However if they were left out in a garage where it got super warm in the summer or super cold in the winter that is where the sealed cards could be ruined. Of course i am no expert in the matter.

Trust me, I know the feeling. Apparently these boxes have a special RC of Kobe only known for this retail box. Rookie Sensation RC. But I'll keep my fingers away from it and let it sit until I get really old and give the box to my children or grandchildren lol. Lol makes me wonder if the box will survive that long.

Great find. Rookies sensations were inserted in all packs.

Inserts arent real rookies.

Nice find indeed! I opened a '96 Fleer Series 2 Hobby Box a few weeks ago, so you know what I'd do haha. They were bricked, but not as bad as I expected. I recommend a heating pad and patience if you go that route.

Are mid '90s sealed boxes really worth anything if there's a good chance the cards inside are bricked due to cheap UV coating?

I doubt they are worth a lot. Probably 100 bucks. It just feels nostalgic looking back when I bought this. I had an option to buy a KFC bucket and bigmac or a box of 96 fleer series 2. Lol

Luckily, the 96-97 Fleer base set isn’t UV coated, so hopefully will be ok.

I really like that set. If you don’t wanna rip, lmk

You're thinking of 97-98.

Awesome box to find! I just got into sealed box collecting recently - Have 3 now, and by far my most prized one is 2000 Muhammad Ali Master's collection box/set. Holding LOOOOOONNGG Term. I told my girlfriend I think it will be worth a million dollars in 50 years.

Good areas... I'll play. I have quite a few sealed boxes I treasure... here's a little beauty -

I picked this up about 2 years ago and I did so specifically because Calbert had ZERO greening. He is beginning to show signs of greening now... With a heavy, HEAVY heart I decided I can't pick up any more sealed Chrome cards from before the turn of the century because make no mistake, eventually its gonna happen

I'm gonna say it probably won't be ok. They were UV coated. A great seller once chucked in a free pack for me in an order and all the cards were absolute brick city/destroyed... I even pulled a Scottie Pip Swing Shift

Its why I have shied away from that specific box or for example stopped short with 96/97 Ultra or 96/97 Skybox because of the 95% chance the cards are beyond salvation. I know why but even still it baffles me how those boxes I mentioned now go for between $750-$1000 at the minimum. The cards inside aren't going to get 'PSA 10', actually not even close.

Open the Collector's Edge for some sweet Kobe's!

It might be an unpopular opinion, but 91 Skybox is my favorite set of all time and the only complete set I own (complete with the prototypes and tough Drexler redemption). Great thing about that set is the semi-matte finish which means no sticking even 30 years later. I may be biased but I’d rip it!
