Default An (almost) Impossible Pairing

2008-09 Topps Treasury featured 30 players in their game worn Mini Logoman 1/1 set. To be able to pull one of these you would have to rip open a regular size "rip" card to find one of them inside.

I am a die hard Utah Jazz fan and my main PC is Carlos Boozer. I came across someone who PC’s Deron Williams through Facebook and we exchanged pictures of our collections. I owned the Carlos Boozer version. Lo and behold he owned the Deron Williams version. He collects Deron Williams because he played college basketball at Illinois and was generous enough to offer to sell the card to me to pair with mine because I am such a huge Jazz fan.

After doing some research, a member on here owned 16/30 cards of the set at one point almost a decade ago which is just amazing. He ended up selling them in 2011 and the Deron Williams version has been in this guys collection since. Today, I was extremely excited to add it to my collection and pair it with my Carlos Boozer. It is only right that they are paired together and in my collection.

To let go of a 1/1 for a player you PC is big.

In the age of people entering the hobby strictly for investment purposes, it is good to hear of stories like this. Proves it’s not always about money or having the rarest cards.

This reminds me of the big-time Dirk for Detlef multi-card trade someone else posted recently.

Awesome card! Great to see these pieces in the right collections.

I’m lucky enough to own the Chris Paul version and it’s one of my favorite cards.

Congrats!

very nice. 16 logomans from this impossible set, I hate it when amazing collections like that that belong together get split up. Maybe you can get 14 more :P and for someone to have the cp3 too. wow.

Amazing duo! Congrats on securing both! Always thought this was a pretty unique set considering the logoman takes up the majority of the card.

My contribution is below. I should really start writing things down when purchasing hard to find cards. I have had this for a few years now but not sure if I grabbed off of ebay or from a fellow Gil collector in Australia.

Congratulations on the huge pickup! Very cool pairing, Williams and Boozer certainly had some great days in Utah playing together.

Very insane that someone was able to put together 16 out of 30 of these. i can't imagine that would be reasonably possible or worth attempting these days.

Very, very cool! The logomen look pretty interesting in a mini card, it feels like the "purest" way to display it in a way (in that it encompasses most of the card)

Haha. One time I saw Luther at a gym in Houston. I gave him the "I-L-L" and he looked surprised before he gave me the "I-N-I." Probably thought I only recognized him from his Rockets days.

Maybe Sean Harrington is the one that collects?

It is probably next to impossible. Just going by this thread I doubt there is any chance you could snag the CP3 or Agent 0 one from the player collectors and definitely couldn’t get the D-Will or Booz from me lol. I will have to link the thread it was pretty amazing that he tracked 16
of them down and was able to acquire them.

Thank you! Still surprised I was able to get it but the guy selling it is an awesome dude. He had a huge PC pickup come up and it was perfect timing. He really only moved it because he knew I had the Boozer and am a huge Jazz fan. He’s helped another D-Will collect finish a set too just because he had the missing piece. Stand up guy for sure.

I apologize for not wording it the best. The person who sold me it collects D-Will because D-Will played for Illinois which is his favorite college team.

There are a few of the unripped cards on eBay. Any one know if these were easily searchable? Did the logoman come in only the low-numbered rip cards?
