Hey gamers! So my friend gave me his Xbox one, as he makes room for his newest console. I haven't had a console since Atari, so I'm a little behind the times lol, but pretty pumped toess around with some gaming. Maybe it's an early 40s midlife crisis
.Was hoping to get advice on some fun games to pick up as I get into Xbox. I'm obviously going to need some simple games since the last controller I ever owned only had one button. I'm a fan of Grand theft Auto, and I'll be looking for a baseball and a hockey probably. What do you guys suggest along the GTA and sports lines that are going to be easier for me to understand and pick up early on? I don't see myself as a headset guy leading the troops like Call of Duty. And I feel like if I jump into a Madden I'm gonna throw the console out the window b/c it's waaay too advanced haha. Also, what's my best bet for picking up used games? Gamestop, or a big box retailer like Best buy? Or should I just troll FB marketplace? Thanks! Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

I buy lots of games off eBay. I would probably check there for specific titles.
One thing to consider would be Xbox Game Pass which is $15 a month for the right to use Xbox Live along with a catelog of 80-100 games which are free to download and play. I would try that first before you go and buy different games. Game Pass has most sports game outside of baseball. Hockey, Golf, Football, Basketball, Racing etc. Baseball games on the Xbox suck. Playstation has the rights to MLB The Show which is the only relevant baseball game. |

, that's disappointing.Any other titles you recommend like Grand theft Auto. I want to blow stuff/get in fights, and kind of drive around lol. Is there Mortal Kombat and other classics like that for Xbox? Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk |

Another game just like GTA is called Saints Row. You could look up that. It is basically a GTA imitation that is pretty solid. I am a big fan of a game call Mass Effect which is also on Game Pass i believe. It is kind of a roam around, blow stuff up kind of game... but is more futuristic and not exactly like GTA. |

In addition to GamePass, Xbox Live is needed to get online and that lets you download 4 pre-chosen games each month (it's called "Games with Gold"). It's usually older stuff but there are some good ones - especially just starting out like you are. I've gotten some pretty decent deals at Gamestop on used games; sometimes they do a buy 2 get 1 free or something like that. Sometimes you can find other places locally that sell used movies and games too.

Like others have said just get Gamepass which has now merged with EA access for the same price. Basically a giant catalog of games that you have unlimited access to and they add more games every week. Just download what games look fun and if you don't like them, delete and download more..rinse and repeat. Basically for less than the price of 1 new game you get hundreds.

Thx for the feedback everyone! Sounds like gamepass is the way to go, but is it true once u quit your sub u lose access to the games? Since I don't think I'll be playing that much at first, I'm gonna stick with the used bargain bins for now. Picked up this Battlefield 4 for a $1 (seemed like a good deal), and some UFC action! All geeked up and ready to play, and the controllers are dead. Womp womp

Be careful about buying Xbox 360 games to use on the Xbox One.
You might not be able to even play Battlefield. Some games are not backwards compatible. |

Hope you have more luck learning the controller than me. Im not a gamer, my last system was a nintendo 64 which I still have. Bought an Xbox one, tried several games, just couldn't get the controller down. Im sure if I put a lot of time into it I would have gotten better but I dont play much anyways.

That is why i would think starting with Gamepass might be the best way to go.... Even if you only have it for a month or 2. Try out everything and then just pick something you like to purchase if you don't want to pay the $15 a month for the online play etc. Another option is to buy an Ultimate Pass subscription on eBay. That would also save you some money. You can find a 3 month subscription to Xbox Ultimate on Ebay for like $30 from third party sellers. That would give you Gamepass for 3 months for $30. I did that recently at it worked smoothly and saved a couple bucks from going direct thru xbox. You just "redeem" a giftcard code in the microsoft system. |

From my understanding backwards compatible games need to be bought through the Xbox store. The physical 360 disc will not work in an Xbox one

You are going to scream every time a game needs an update that takes at minimum, 10 minutes to complete.
Talk about short attention spans in kids. I'm also in my 40's and lose interest REAL fast when every time I switch a game out, this action takes place. I don't know how the youngin's deal with it. I just want to play the freaking game!

If you like the older games, you can pick up compilations, Atari Flashback 1, 2 & 3, Sega Genesis Classics, Rare Replay, etc.

I had a 360 launch console and I still say that all the time. I always put off PC gaming so I didn't have to mess with that but now consoles are basically PCs. Just wait until you get a game like Call of Duty Warzone that's around 100GB download and then go to play it and there's an 80GB update
