Dominique Wilkins and Reggie Miller are my two favorite players of all time. I've collected Wilkins hard and always felt his cards were a bargain. Reggie's cards on the other hand have always felt kind of overpriced to me-- at least relative to Wilkins cards-- so I never really amassed much.
Both have somewhat similar resumes as the GOATs of their respective franchises during tough eras that kept them from winning rings. They both had a dominant skill (Miller with his clutch sharpshooting, Wilkins with his dunking and scoring. Why are there such wide discrepancies in prices?

I would guess cause Reggie has had so many big playoff battles with MJ and NY as well as always being in the limelight on TV

Reggie has more attention - He’s a broadcaster, threw out choke signs and hit a big 3 against MJ. His Sister is also another factor
The 3 point shot is massive now, Dominique’s dunk popularity is not enough and BG is also evidence of that PS - Love both of them

Cheryl is a more famous sibling than Eddie?
Uncle Drew movie? I think that Reggie is more visible helps as has been pointed out but in the hobby, Reggie had fewer autos probably helped too |

Reggie UCLA baby! j/k
Miller had one of the most epic moments in Bk history at Madison. That supersedes anything Nique did.

I don't know if this factors in or not, but I feel like Dominique being on several different teams after Atlanta doesn't help.

You're going to need some kind of Last Dance esque special on greatest dunkers of all time or something for Nique to get more hobby love. As great as he was.

I grew up in the 80's. I am a Nique fan. used to love watching the duels between Wilkens and Bird, and Jordan and Bird in the Eastern Conference playoffs, not to mention the 1988 dunk contest battle between Wilkens and Jordan.

Reggie was part of an era where the NBA sparked global fandom. When the Dream Team was formed, It took the NBA and its stars to new stratospheres worldwide.
Fortunately for Reggie, during this time frame he was just entering his prime, so he was able to put some memorable battles with Jordan at the height of MJ’s career. Unfortunately for Nique, he was at the tail end of his, bouncing from one team to another and was no longer marketed or featured by the league. |

Two 3 pointers within seconds of each other. Knicks fans still have nightmares of Miller to this day. Did Dominique even make the Eastern conference finals, let alone the finals??? The Pacers were continuously making noise in the playoffs and that is what people remember. Knicks fans remember Miller, Bulls fans remember the Pacers pushing them to 7 games in a tough series, and the Lakers remember the Pacers putting up a good fight. Stats are great, but people remember playoff performances.

Another thing to consider is that Wilkins had most of his best years in the 80's while Reggie did it in the 90's. The NBA had better ratings and worldwide popularity in the 90's compared to the 80's. Many other great players from the 80's don't get as much recognition in card prices as they deserve: Moses Malone, Kevin McHale, Isaiah Thomas, etc.

Dominique was the leading scorer on a Spurs team that drafted Tim Duncan the very next draft.

Dominique has some beautiful Star cards. Buy them and hold. The hobby eventually has to come around to Star, right? And if PSA ever starts grading them . . .

I think a big part of it is simply their ages. Dominique was just on network TV a lot less in his prime than Reggie was in his. Dominique came in the league in the early 80’s when the NBA was hard to find on TV. Reggie came to the league in the late 80’s and hit his prime in the 90’s after the NBA became a weekend staple on NBC. There are way more people who saw Reggie hit big shots on NBC in the 90’s than Wilkins on CBS in the 80’s.

Dominique played for multiple teams and he is not the Hawks GOAT. Bob Pettit is and Pete Maravich would probably be number 2.
