Quote:
Product Details

Offering fans more trading cards from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), 2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond pushes further into the high-end collecting world.

Similar to 2019 Upper Deck Marvel Studios First Ten Years, the new product takes an overall approach to the popular Marvel Studios films.

2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond Base / Inserts
Featuring the Infinity Saga, which encompasses 23 movies, going from Iron Man (2008) to Avengers: Endgame (2019), 2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond is packed with superhero potential.

The Black Diamond base set includes 100 cards. These are numbered to 149 copies.

Falling one per box, on average, collectors can find limited Exquisite Collection cards, as well. The lineup totals 50 cards and adds one-of-one Black parallels.

The one-of-one Exquisite Collection CMYK Plate Booklet cards are a chase option showcasing all four printing plates from a specific Exquisite card.

Taking inspiration from diamonds are the Diamond Cutters and Diamond Facet inserts. These feature embedded acetate window designs.

2021 Marvel Black Diamond Autographs / Diamonds / Hits
Headlining the 2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond checklist is a star-studded lineup of signers.

These autographs take several forms.

2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond Autographs Breakdown

Black Diamond Base Set Gold Autograph (#'d)
Black Diamond Base Set Red Autograph (1/1)
Exquisite Collection Autograph Black Foil (1/1)
Diamond Facet Autographs (#'d)
Diamond Plate
Diamond Plate Black Autographs (#'d)
Diamond Plate and Triskelion
In addition, Diamond Shards comes in single, dual, triple and autographed memorabilia versions, which Polished Patches offers single patch, puzzle patch and autograph patch cards.

Tying into the 2021 Upper Deck Marvel Black Diamond brand name are the many lab-created diamond relic cards. For the base Black Diamond set, there is a limited Diamond (#/5) parallel, and Exquisite Collection offers Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple Diamond Relics parallels (#/23) in honor of the Infinity Stones.

Retro Diamond Relics goes the throwback route with 2015-16 (#/15), 2016-17 (#/16), 2017-18 (#/17) and 2018-19 (#/18) designs. In true Black Diamond fashion, the selection includes single, double, triple and quad editions.

Merging the hits, Gemography (#/25) pairs diamonds and actor autographs.

Finally, there are one-of-one Black Diamond and Exquisite Collection Sketch cards.

Estimated Release Date: February 2021 TBD

I saw that this morning, looks interesting. Preliminary signer list is good, Anthony Mackie and Paul Bettany are both first time signers for UD correct? Really been wanting a Mackie auto for awhile.

Diggin' that Tim Blake Nelson is on the list.

Where super-hero properties are concerned, he was also excellent as Looking Glass in the acclaimed HBO "Watchmen" sequel last year.

1) had no idea who that was until you said Looking Glass, so that's awesome

2) had no idea what Marvel movie he was in, and had to look that up. Probably only seen Incredible Hulk twice. LOL Spoilers - he plays Samuel Sterns in that movie, who one day would become The Leader, which they did tease, but nothing ever came of it.

I was excited until I saw this was MCU-related. I'll still be looking forward to box breaks, but would have preferred comic-related.

Let me be the mandatory poster for any given card set thread asking this question.

On Card Autographs?

We know it wont be, but it sure would be nice if it was.

I wonder if people like Downey Jr. just tell the card companies something like, "Never ask me to sign your cards again!". If not, Upper Deck should be constantly asking him, especially for these premium products. You'd think he might be willing to sign a few by now for a high fee that goes to his favorite charity.

I thought the same thing until I saw Hemsworth. He must have signed thousands of stickers as he seems to be in every MCU product.

Seems like an interesting set.

I wonder what will happen to the Exquisite cards from UD Endgame since this includes a new 50 card set of Exquisite. The Exquisite from Endgame are very nicely done with the diamonds though.

Great news. Any new MCU product is welcome and with new signers, its a no brainer for me. Gonna start saving for Epack now.

You had me at Anthony Mackie!!!

These are Marvel MCU first time signers with UD??
Anthony Mackie
Paul Bettany
Winston Duke
Elizabeth Debicki
Tim Blake Nelson

Georges St-Pierre would be a new signer for me... so 6 possible new autographs to add to the collection... This list would of been great for the MCU10 set... but you have my attention again UD.

The auto pics show that they are definitely sticker autos.

Also was hoping that this was a comic set and not MCU.

I'd be all over this. Feels like the MCU doesn't get the cards they deserve. I know some want comic sets, but come on, aren't there enough of those? Didn't one just get released this week?

Yep, Marvel Anime, which is a new set with original art and concepts. MM20 was last month (maybe July?) that was all original art.

With MCU, there are limited frames to pull from; pretty much every movie has a set, plus the catch-all sets that came out that cover multiple movies.

At least MCU seems to be the middle ground. Look at SW. They will have Journey To sets, plus two series for one film. That's a litle silly.

The plate booklets are a nice idea. Curious to see how they look.

UD did this in some hockey products. They are basically 4-panel foldout cards. They look nice, but are hard to display.

I love Marvel cards. I love the MCU.

I do not love $240 boxes with manufactured patches, fake diamonds and sticker autos.

Yah, considering manufactured diamonds cost about 25 cents each, I'm surprised the numbered diamond cards sell for as much as they do.

They definitely don't cost much to produce. I'm surprised Upper Deck hasn't included parallels with other manufactured gemstones like opals, rubies, sapphires...they are all cheap but at least look cool when embedded in cards.

Not sure where you're getting the idea that "manufactured diamonds cost about 25 cents" but you're not close on these.

If these are indeed lab grown diamonds, they are diamonds. And they are not 25 cents.

There is no indication that these are CZ or similar, and the fact that they are using the term "diamond" it's most certainly a diamond...lab grown or not.

Some cool info in those images. Pom Klementieff and Ray Stevenson as possible signers too? The 6 diamond/stone infinity cards look cool. I was hoping for something like that in the Endgame set. I'll be happy if they do 'relic autos' vs. 'patch autos'. Looks like both are being done.

I'm excited for this set, but I'm cautious. Easily could see changes to signer list and final cards. I think probably best to wait for official release/checklist vs. pre-ordering unless pre-order is obviously low, which I doubt with current market.

While I agree with this, I personally see them as no better than cards with manufactured patches. The only hook is that this is Black DIAMOND, so I get the idea.
