Why doesn't Lindor have the hobby love like some of the other superstars?

Is it a Cleveland thing?

Defensively, offensively, personality, stye/swag, international... He's got it all.

Yet there isn't an "official" Lindor thread. Nobody is sharing their Lindor pickups. Very few new product autos in 2020 even though he's an official Topps guy.

If this is Lindor's last season in Cleveland, I imagine only New York, Chicago, or LA could afford him... Does this all change then?

I'd imagine it's a small market thing. I absolutely love his game. I'm not an Indians fan but I always hoped they'd be able to lock him down. That clearly doesn't appear likely at this point in time. I've never seen him linked to the Cubs. I'd love them to go after him but doubt that happens.

As someone who has grabbed some of his cards on occasion, I will say he is $$$$... generally more (even much more) than other players I PC... so I’m not sure he is overlooked

Just for whatever reason there hasn’t been that one person on BO to carry his PC thread.

But look, I’m one of like just a few people that post regularly in multiple PC thread forums. So the fact no one is carrying him isn’t strange.

If you create a thread for Lindor, and keep it active, I’m sure you will get folks that post on it occasionally. Even if it is just you and 1-2 others who post more regularly.

Post cards, it helps

I love Lindor. I hope the Mets new ownership gives him whatever he wants. I’ve sold off most of my modern but kept this.

I'm surprised that Mr. Smile never really got more of a push to be the face of MLB

I don't have any cards of him, but while he's not the cheapest one out there, it does seem like there's good room for growth, particularly if (when?) he goes to a different team. Seems like there's plenty of room for more well deserved attention on him, both in the hobby and just in general

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t get hobby love. His 2015 Topps Update base PSA 10 goes for $200 and his 2015 Topps Chrome goes for $400 right now. Pretty strong prices.

His cards have actually jumped quite a bit this year. I imagine it is mostly people speculating that he will end up with a big market team next year, but we will see. He certainly is extremely talented, and hes young to boot.

Ya - I have the same reaction... he’s actually one of the higher priced stars out there... certainly not a cheap undervalued player

This implies he gets a lot of hobby love

the idea that he doesn't get "hobby love" evidently comes from the fact that the BO hype machine doesnt appear interested in him for whatever reason

The BO hype train only focuses on underperforming rookies where people need to unload 1st bowman / RC before they are too far underwater

If the player is doing well, they don’t want anyone to notice while they build a stash

Quiet = the player is killing it (or genuinely irrelevant).

Loud = player is near or past peak

I know that Lindors flagship and 1st Chromes are performing on the market, but just seems that he isn't loved by people.

You can 3 color patch autos for under $100. That doesn't seem to be the case for Tatis, Acuna, Trout, Bellinger, Betts, etc...

That in my opinion shows even more hobby love. Everyone wants the RC, but it's the secondary stuff that shows me he is "popular" among hobbyists.

I think his Topps Chrome is going to be the biggest riser (non-auto) if he gets into a big market. It's an SP. Also any Topps Chrome RC auto. Those never show up on eBay.

Just add this one to the collection of classic posts recently satirizing the hobby. Guy has a $100 base RC and a $600 9.5 base BC Auto and is perceived as “undervalued”

Feels like too many folks are using waaaay over valued players as the yardstick, unfortunately

Add this to one of the collection of classic posts that has nothing to do with the original post.

As a stated later in the thread too... Everyone wants the RCs, but Lindor is very affordable outside of his Flagship and BC 1st Auto.

"Undervalued" is not simply referring only to his most valuable cards.

Much of this post came out of not seeing any "official Francisco Lindor" thread and almost never seeing his cards in BST threads like do the other superstars.

He just doesn't seem to get much love or talk in the hobby. That doesn't mean that his Update RC, TC and BC Auto won't sell really well.

You were wondering why he has no hobby love. He’s one of the most expensive players. Not sure what better measure there is to define hobby love than how much people are willing to spend to get their cards

It sounds like you might be new to baseball and probably a basketball collector who like many others just came over to the sport. No one besides Trout is worth much of anything outside of RCs/BC Autos and select 2nd year cards

You were complaining that his patch cards aren’t worth much. Baseball collectors don’t care about patch cards

Because most of this forum is just degenerate gamblers and Lindor is not going to shoot the moon on prices in a short period because he’s already too established as to what kind of player he is.

#ThanksFlippers for skewing card values.

It’s the “job” of too many people to do all they can to raise the value of cards.

Heck, the formal mission statement of some hobby institutions is to raise the value of cards.

Hence the vast majority of cards are overvalued, especially since cards are overproduced.

there are a lot of Lindor hoarders out there ... https://photos.app.goo.gl/zagXTw3Y6eL9KGRv5 .... I’ve built two stashes for my two boys back in 2016-2018 .... he’s got plenty of collectors but hardly any headline love if that’s what the OP is talking about

I think he’ll grow next year when he’s traded to the Mets, Giants, or Seattle. He’d be great in the Bay Area. I started collecting him when I got back into the hobby. I even bought a few hobby boxes to have the joy of catching him from a pack. I still haven’t gone all in to land a chrome parallel or chrome auto. But I have a few golds now if his RC. I think his prices are right where they should be for now. I think he’s a future HOF and the second half of his career, if he’s in a big market, will add some juice to his cards like it did for Betts.

I remember buying this at a local card show for $40 (asking price was $50). I couldn’t pass up on it since it was nicely centered with perfect corners.

Love how people get so butt hurt about stuff. Dude goes deep into the defensive and calls me a newbie basketball flipper.

Don't own a single football or basketball card.

I'm a Lindor collector who is shocked that there isn't more Lindors on the BST thread and that there isn't an official Lindor thread like some smaller stars such as Devers. Sorry that I thought that was odd and attributed that to being that he doesn't have much hobby love.

I forgot that the RC and 1st Bowman prices are all that matter and it has nothing to do with the player. You see Acuna, Soto, Robert, Lewis, and Trout threads as mainstays on the front page and yet if you search Lindor there was a thread back from 2017.

I have made myself pretty clear and never in my OP did I mention that his prices weren't on the same level as Acuna, Trout, etc... But if we want to equate them, then why is that all the talk is about 8 players and Lindor is left out of it. His prices are as high as many of them so... Correlation is that he is just as popular as everyone because of his prices. All the other variables that I am factoring in aren't there.

This is why the baseball card world is toxic asf. Someone asks a question to begin a conversation and give their thoughts and the trolls come out to play.
