Default Difference between gold/10 & green/5?

Noticed these two Curry auctions. The gold was Probstein and the green was PWCC. The PSA10 green is /5 yet ended at roughly half the price of the raw gold /10. Is gold truly 2x more valuable despite the print run being 2x higher? Has that always been the case? Pardon my ignorance if this is considered common knowledge.

Green has always been the less desirable color than gold no matter what set.

It started with 2012 prizm and on from there.

Yup, people still take color over rarity.
Like how Silver Prizm's trump most others unless they are low numbered enough.

Yup, it's a known fact that gold /10 outsells green /5 most of the times. I want a showcase full of GOLD cards. Those are hot. Who wants a showcase full of yucky GREEN cards?!

Gold is pretty. Green is not.

Dark green is a classy colour, gold is flashy and tacky and appeals to the mindset of collectors (like birds)

Interesting. Guess it’s that simple. “Gold is brighter/shinier”
Those auction prices still seem out of whack, though. Ungraded copy of card with double the print run sells for 2x the gem10 copy with half the print run. I guess some things just aren’t supposed to make much sense.

This is true. My Zion optic orange /199 is worth equal to or less than my Zion optic holo. Odd.

I think the only set the /5 may outsell the /10 gold is in Flawless. The Luka did 75K for the SS auto patch, I dont believe the /10 would fetch that but could be wrong. Also, in NT does the emerald /5 outsell the /10 gold?

Give me the green /5 at half off most of the time. I collect both but I think the premium for gold is a bit strange. It seems being 10 is also a sweet spot as it’s 2x more obtainable.

Emerald's outsell golds when the "coloring" is not as "big". For example, the coloring for Flawless is just the border of the jersey box or the lettering. The rest of the card is white. In those cases, the patch or serial number dictates the sale prices.

For Prizm, Select, Optic, etc where the coloring is more "visible", the gold wins most of the time.

Default Difference between gold/10 & green/5?

If you haven't, you guys should check out what Prizm football does with their /5 parallel.

Instead of ugly Black Gold, they go with a superfractor look and call it 'Gold Vinyl".

Absolutely stunning card that outsells gold.

I’m sure In this case it also helps that it’s one of the teams primary colors as well. It says Gold right in the name

Call me old school, but gold vinyls should always be 1/1s.

Prizm wants to keep Blacks as it's 1/1 across all sports, I guess.

Makes sense. Instead of shoehorning in another 1/1 like they do in basketball, they decided to make a great looking /5.

Own one of these yourself. I promise you will be a believer.

It's not always as simplistic as golds and silvers outselling all the other colors. If the color of the parallel matches the team colors, it can end up selling for a premium - example: 2016 Optic Orange /199 will outsell any parallel that is not gold. I'll give you that golds will almost always outsell the rest, although there are always exceptions to the rule. Example: Red /5 Trout vs. Gold /50 Trout

Yup, it's never made much sense to me but the price difference seems about right.
