Example: There are a few young backup QBs in the league who only have RCs in 2-5 products. Usually some mix of Select (usually only one level), Contenders, Contenders Optic, Unparalleled, or National Treasures.
We all start drooling (rightly so) over low SN rookies of guys like Mahomes and Watson, but what would it even look like if a guy with only three different RCs started getting some hype? I guess we got a small taste of that with Nick Mullens starting and winning on MNF, but that was over so quickly that we didn't really get to see what kind of madness that might spawn. |

As far as NFL goes... Danny Woodheads Sage explosion comes to mind...I made $20 every 10 minutes one night during a MNF game. He had 2 cards...Sage & Sage Aspire both with base cards & autos. Just so happens I had alot of both. Once I saw them creep past $10 each...it was bananas! I believe they went up to $25 each...for a Sage paper card! The autos were hitting $50/$100 if I remember correctly. |

Opening game against Philly, he had 2 tds. Press pass autos were going for $100+ Qbs are different. There can be an injury or off season move for prices to jump. Like last year. LUCK retirement, every Brisset and Kelly was sold Luck. Speculation and more luck IMO

Pretty much everyone is exploding. Messi Prizm base is $50 with players like a Mbappe Prizm RC selling for $600

I collect David Bakhtiari (OL). Now entering his 9th year, with 4 All-Pro, his boxed product cards:
- 2017 Unparalleled (only "real" release, has RC logo) - 2016 Panini Colorado (college multisport) - 2013 Sage (seems like he signed 9 million) Then has some odd ball cards, only one of note: - 2013 Panini Day (only auto in NFL uniform, has RC logo) For a while all were pretty cheap except Panini Day. Then he chugged a beer on TV and it got more pricey. Now it seems like mostly vanilla base or easy parallels listed for too much, or someone lists a BIN for a numbered parallel for way too cheap and it's instantly gone. I'd say as a whole, but single game performances can swing prices quickly (much like what I'd imagine OP was alluding to). Take a peek at Kingsley Coman for Bayern Munich. He scored the only goal to win the UEFA Champions League for them and the prices for his 2018 World Cup Prizms went from ~$5-8 on August 22nd to ~$25 today.

Basically one of the reasons they're seeing a price explosion is the low amount of product along with a surge in demand. With a top player like Jadon Sancho, you really only have two options for a rookie card - Topps Chrome or Donruss/Optic set and no autographs. This is the case for many of the players, so the supply/demand dynamic isn't quite the same as it is for other sports with plenty of options.

I’m just wondering what happens if a guy like Rodgers or Burrows goes down and suddenly a guy like Tim Boyle or Jake Dolegala (3 total RCs a piece) is suddenly thrust into the a starting role.

Seems like only yesterday Raheem Mostert's Contenders were selling for $500 after the NFC Championship game...
Now the same card can be had for $75-$100 bucks

Back in the day when the unknown Kurt Warner stepped in and ran the greatest show on turf his stuff was through the moon relative to pricing in that day and age. He didn't have many true RCs. I could only imagine if that story played out today...

I seem to remember that Tony Romo didn't have a lot of rookie cards either and what few there were started going for high prices.
