I have days where I think about selling some cards that have increased in value by huge amounts and then I think about the cards that I sold 2-3 months ago that I didn’t think would climb as high as they did.
As a result, I feel a little gun shy about selling because I missed out on thousands of extra dollars. Thankfully I made profit every time but missed on HUGE profits by selling. For example, I sold (4) 2017-18 Optic Jayson Tatum PSA 10’s during the first part of the season for $30 each. Bought them over a year ago for $9.60 each. Two weeks after selling, they exploded. They sell for $350 now. So now I’m sitting on several players that have exploded in value lately and I can’t help but wonder if selling now would be foolish (like my 2018-19 Prizm Mitchell Robinson Silver PSA 10 that I bought for $38 and it’s selling for $300). Anyone else wrestling with this nowadays? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yep..I've been burned ALL YEAR..most recently, my Giannis PSA 10 Prizm Base RC. Sold it a couple months ago for 2k..now its nearly 7K, 2nd biggest mistake I've made this year (buying peak Project 2020 would be #1). Sold a ton of Shai early, Zion Prizm Base early, etc etc.

Ha I agree but more profit is more profit lol On the flip side, I’ve hit timing perfectly on some cards. I sold my 2018 Topps Chrome Shane Bieber Pink refractor BGS 10 for $800 after his second start. Considering I paid $35 for it, I felt like it made up for some the other sales that I could have had if I had held a little longer. Who would have guessed a boom like this would occur though?!?!? I've been basically 'burned' selling everything, at huge profits. I just at this point take the profit that I'm happy with and don't look back.
Luka, Giannis, LeBron, Trae, Shai, MPJ etc etc etc. Sold them all 'too early' based on current prices, but made huge profits on all of them.

Well, I guess if you treat it as an investment it's like any other investment, it's difficult to "time" the market.
The way I do it, and this is just me, is I buy cards for my collection for prices I'm happy with, and then stick an arbitrary number on each card where I'd say "You know what, having it in my collection is nice, but I can't say no to that money." Unless the money is life changing to you, do not sweat if it dips in price, or you lose out on some money, and make sure you're mentally prepared for either. |

I regret every single card I've ever sold because they've all gone up exponentially. Now, Every time I think of selling something else I hold off and two months later I'm glad I did. This completely reminds me of 04-07 and housing prices (they always go up). The risk averse financial nerd in me tells me to sell it all and take my profit, but then I remember this is supposed to be a "hobby" and the money doesn't really matter to me.

I always wondered who this poor soul was. Lol. I sold gem courtside base for $750. So, I can feel your pain. Paid $60 for it before the season. My god, if I could go back with what we know today.

Man that one stings. I remember buying a Luka Optic shock for only about $3 on COMC and selling it for about $12 or so as a quick flip. I try not to look back at some of my old COMC sales for reasons like that. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Second-guessing also works on the way down

I never want to sell the peak.
Those guys selling Zion Bass Prizm PSA 10s last week are probably sitting around waiting if they get hit with the “scuffed case” return. Lose 3% + last weeks value only to try again. I’d much rather be the guy who has never had a return (and I haven’t) because I let the next guy try and get his. |

You need to mark a magic number. When you hit it, you sell. Work with that. Nothing wrong with taking profits at anytime. FOMO happens all the time. I dont know how people dwell on a single thing when you have been missing out on everything in the last 4 months.
Focus on making $$$, not on what you could have made!! |

Almost forgot this sale I made last week.
Sold a 2018-19 Prizm Michael Porter Jr RWB for $45. Was glad that I didn’t sell it back when they jumped up to $11 earlier this season. Just saw they jumped to over $100 after his next game. Glad I kept the other one I had and didn’t sell both. The way his prices are jumping, I am totally clueless on when to sell the second one. It may be a card to keep for years if he keeps this up. Im doing more selling than ever. Mostly on trivial cards, but i have a few monsters (for me a monster is anything I can make $100 on) that I'm thinking pretty hard about selling.. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk |

Like you said though, I do feel a little more peace when I sell something that I feel is a good sale price for me, but a decent price for the buyer because he thinks it may keep going up. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I know, right??? I try to sell for a decent profit but then realize that even though I made good money, I missed out on even more if I had waited a few more days. No way to ever know though. I’m just glad that several of you feel the same way I do though. Sometimes you wonder if you are the only one wrestling with some of these thoughts when selling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
