Default Need Help Regarding Trout 1/1

I recently about 6-7 months ago started getting back into the Sports Cards Hobby. It escalated a lot once Covid occurred and I have been stocking up on my investments, while also enjoying breaking some boxes.

Yesterday I was involved ina 3-box Luminance Break on Jaspys. 3 People, 3 Boxes, everyone gets one card randomed. The Cards came Carlton Fisk Auto /15, Mike Trout 1/1 Letter Patch Auto Booklet, and David Ortiz Auto /15. Luck was with me and I ended up getting matched up with the Trout booklet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsx0YxDIEu4

Tomorrow I drive from SF to LA about 5.5 hours each way to pick up this gem of a card. It's extremely beautiful, but at the same time I don't PC Trout, and am extremely worried about the upcoming potential Strike.

So I am selling the card, and I am deciding who I want to sell it through. Right now my top two options are as follows:

1) PC Sports Cards aka Jewcer - I have consigned with them on numerous items ranging from $5 to $500 and they are always on point. Best consigners I have dealt with. But this Trout Card might need to go somewhere besides Ebay to protect from shill bidders. Also I am located in California, they are in New York, so I worry a bit about shipping.

2) Goldin Auctions - I have already emailed with them and the one thing I like is they have a catalog. They have a client base that reliably pays for things. So while I would prefer to help someone else out who isn't the BIG GUY in the industry, Goldin does a great job with their auctions and I feel there could potentially be some people willing to bid more once the Superfractor sells and they don't win it.

Any sort of help, or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am currently not accepting offers for the card unless someone wants to blow my pants off.

Thanks and Happy Collecting

Why don't you just sell yourself?

If I had to consign between those two, I'd pick pcsportscards

Congrats on the hit.

eBay has a $350 minimum final value fee...whats your eBay account look like? You have any experience in eBay sales in general?
Also if you send it to BGS they will help you promote it.

Just whatever you do, don't go to 1deh1 for value advice

Such a cool card. I have 0 experience with auction houses, but that's really cool.

I wonder what it would go for?

you can also look at past sales of similar cards and if you feel comfortable selling for that amount, then do it yourself

All the other Trout letter patch #1/1 autos from past products sell $2-3k, at that level you can just list yourself and save the consignment fees. eBay max fees would still be cheaper than either other option and you'd be able to see the offers and choose one instead of sitting for a month and hoping an auction does well/the games are still going.

I was thinking it would be higher than $2-3k but I only have like 2 Trout cards.

At that price, just sell it yourself.

I say PC. I’ve used Josh for submissions and he’s top-notch.

The last one sold from 2020 inception, same card, auto with letter patch. Sold on 5/30/2020 for $1,313.

Only difference is this one is 1/2 but identical. On card auto with letter patch on side

https://www.ebay.com/itm/133418887973

I agree with this poster, just list yourself

I thought the FVF was 10% with max of $750?

Inception is not on the same tier as Luminaries. And there actually is a little bit of a difference between a 1/1 and a 1/2. Maybe I end up getting $1500 for it. For a $250 investment that isn't too bad.

I think I'll get at least 3K for it, maybe i'm wrong. Im going to let the bidders decide how high they want to go.

Why on earth are you driving 11 hours to pick it up? I'm so confused.

Because, like he said, he's fairly new, and he's excited.

OP, congrats on the hit, but I would take a deep breath. It's gonna be fine. This is a great card, but please realize there are hundreds of 4 figure cards being shipped all over the country every day. It's going to be ok. Please do not drive 11 hours to pick it up. The card world has changed. 4 figure cards are everywhere, heck, 5 figure cards are everywhere.

I don't mean to take away from your excitement, as I would also be excited to hit a cool piece like this, so please don't think that, but I would gently encourage you to just ship the card. Josh would be a great choice for consignment if you choose to go that route, but you're not gonna drive the card cross country. It's very cool, and if you need shipping help, this board will provide.

I hope you enjoy this card or the money, and if you do choose to drive, please have a safe trip.

All the best to you, and again, congrats.

Yes I would list it yourself on ebay at auction. And let it ride then when mail it send it certified so it is signed for every step of the delivery this will take longer but it's worth the security and no international shipping

I would drive to NY and interview Jewcer in person about how well he feels like he can handle an auction like this. Then drive to wherever Goldin is and interview them, and then drive back to NY for a final interview with Jewcer. Once you’ve made your final decision, drive back to SF and get the card, and turn around and drive it to your choice of consigner.

Wow tough crowd...Tough crowd.

Anyone from California knows the drive, while stressful at times, is not that bad from the SF Bay Area to Los Angeles. Not to mention there was some good food eaten on the way down and back.

Anyways, after reading comments from this forum, and other advice via IG. I am going to consign the Mike Trout card with PC Sportscards (Jewcer). I am going to submit it in about 1.5-2 weeks right around the time the Trout Superfractor ends.

Thanks for both the positive and negative comments!

Don't worry about it. There's always "that guy" in every question thread.

very nice! Great choice to pick jewcer! I use him for my grading and selling needs.

I agree, the drive ain't bad depending on the time of day and once you're out of LA. After you pass LA going north, its a breeze!

To each their own, I think it is one of the more awful drives -- either nothing for 4 hours down I-5 or speed traps galore on 101. Watch out around Camp Roberts if you go 101.

Can anyone confirm the $350 FVF cap on cards? I cant find anything in my ebay that mentions the card category specifically, its just shows most categories at $750 cap.

I think you need an eBay store to get that - I see the same as you.

The drive is nice especially if you take the Coast. Heck, you're going to SF too. Gotta hit up the wharf and GG bridge at least. That's if you have the time and someone to at least go with you.

Otherwise, shipping is pretty good. I've received at least 3 $400 cards in bubble envelopes(wrapped in cardboard) and all were fine. With that card, it's going USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Large box. I figure the bigger the box the least likely it is to get lost. Not sure if that is actually the case though.
