So do you have to crack the case and then send the card in or do you send the card still in the graded case? How close are grades between PSA and BGS? Is BGS9 = PSA9

Either is an option, but, they are different services.
Sending a slabbed BGS card to PSA for grading is called a "crossover". You MUST list a minimum grade you are willing to accept in your order form. You will also have to list the BGS serial number that correlates to that specific card. If you break the card out of the case and send that in, then that is called a "raw card" submission. You do not have to disclose that it was previously graded by beckett. The only way they will know is if the card is a 1/1 and the researcher goes to the beckett pop report to see if they graded that card. With that said, I do not know if PSA actually does that, but, I wouldn't put it past them. In terms of how close BGS and PSA are when it comes to grading, lately, PSA has been NUCLEAR tough on grades. From my own recent experiences and from what I have read here on the forums, PSA has become quite stringent. I think it has something to do with all that FBI investigation stuff that occured last year. Also, it has something to do with a card company wanting to appear as the toughest grader in the land. This makes their prime grades appear more valuable. It also could just come down to PSA hiring a bunch of new graders and they are just scorching the market with Mint 9 cards that two years ago would have been clear Gem Mint 10s. Regardless, I think Beckett is more lenient with their grading. I never recommend crossovers as the odds will be against you. No company wants to appear weaker than the other when it comes to grading. Imagine owning PSA and looking down at a Beckett 9.5 and the customer wants your PSA Gem Mint 10 grade. More times than not, it won't happen. Elitco has a video on YouTube where he sent like 25 BGS cards to PSA for crossover and only 3 made the grade. PSA will also keep the total fee even if they don't crossover. With Crossover grading, you are paying for an opinion. With raw card grading, I consider it more of a service as PSA will slab the card under virtually every circumstance unless it is a counterfeit, altered, incapable of authenticating or your minimum grade is above what they feel the card's grade will be. Beyond those circumstances, you're getting a PSA slab back. It is up to you. Good luck in your choice. Last edited by CARDS2DIECAST4; 08-06-2020 at 10:30 PM. |
