Default What is your best find while sorting???

I just found this card while sorting all my series 2

What’s so special about it??

Missed it completely when I hit it.

What’s the best card you’ve ever found while sorting?

I think the guy that found the Pete Alonso Series 2 Platinum 1/1 while going back through his stash might the best example.. ever. My examples are usually some sort of heritage action or flagship SP. Nothing worthwhile

I was going through a Prestige lot I had sold. Just making sure I had the correct count, and I found a 1/1 of some Chiefs player. This was back in like 2017, so not Mahomes of course. But still nice to find a 1/1 parallel that I didn't know I had.

In baseball, I was going through a 3200 count box of 2018 Topps Update and pulling Ohtani, Acuna and Soto RCs (I had just opened packs, pulled inserts, parallels, hits and variations and put all the base in a box). Found an Ohtani Independence Day parallel RC #d/76.

Those are my best 2. Congrats OP on the Zimmerman.

Funny, I was going to say a Zimmerman card, too.

For me, it was a 2006 Bowman auto. I completely missed it, then months (or possibly a year-plus) later I found it while sorting through my commons. It was a much bigger deal back when I pulled it, probably a $40-$50 card.

As a side note, I wish they still did on-card Bowman autos, as they did with Strasburg and Harper. I love those cards.

I don’t think anyone’s can beat that. Yours is pretty darn good too. This is one of the best things about breaking boxes/cases, going back through and finding the stuff you missed.

There are at least two kinds of these finds: those genuinely overlooked at first pass, or cards that are common but later become gold. For the first, I missed a Mike Lowell 1/1 2004 Diamond Kings. Easy to do as that set slapped 1/1 on just about everything. For the latter, I'll cheat and go to football and Tom Brady Bowman RCs that got tossed in a pile of commons and forgotten for 15 years,

A year or so ago, I went looking for my 2011 topps update trout card that I thought I had, but wasn't sure about it. I found it and was happy, and stopped looking. A few months later I randomly found another one in another box.

Okay I don't know if this qualifies as the best but I don't think I've ever gone fully numb holding a card before. A little backstory. I've basically been out of the hobby for 20 years. I'd buy my sons a box of Flagship baseball and Panini basketball each year. During the lock down I went through them with my 15 year old. He had a Pokemon box on a shelf he told me he'd gone through. I picked it up and some non-Poke cards in the back. Turned out to be 2012-13 Panini Crusades basketball...maybe about 75 cards. I start thumbing through them and find a 1/1 Kobe Black Prizm. Could. Not. Believe. It. Needless to say I'm shipping it off to BGS...it sat in his closet untouched for over 7 years!

Was putting a package together for COMC a few months ago and found 10 2013 Finest Mike Trout’s, so I sent those in. Then, a few weeks back, I found 10 2012 GQ Trout’s and a 12 Finest. Thinking of sending them in to be graded.

Searching through a box of cheapies in 2017 and found a 2011 Update Gold Trout. It wasn’t even penny sleeved.

I bought three 2019 retail hangers of Flagship and they sat on my desk unsorted for a few months. I was getting a sub together for Jewcer and remembered I pulled a Vlad RC. After looking it over with my loupe, I set it aside. Not until later while filling out the form did I realize it was a NNO.

That wasn't the best part. In that same stack, I found the Giants team card Platinum 1/1 when I was sorting by number. They are so easy to miss!

In the summer of 2010, I visited a LCS and bought a bunch of hobby boxes. Mostly baseball, but also a little basketball on clearance. Opened up most of it, and put the best "hits" in one of those cheap little plastic card storage cases. Then I stepped away from the hobby for about 6 years.

Eventually I went looking for those cards again, because I kept hearing about this Mike Trout guy, and I knew I had a numbered auto of him in there. Eventually I found it, and sure enough, I had a Bowman Platinum Autograph Red Refractor in there, numbered to 10.

That's the one I remembered I had. The other cards were the surprise. For one thing, there was a Stephen Curry RC auto (Court Kings). Then there was the Christian Yelich 1st Bowman Chrome Blue Auto /150. The Yelich wasn't a big card yet when I unearthed it, but it sure turned into one! There were some other nice cards too, but those were the big ones, and the latter two I had forgotten all about.

I sold the Trout about 3 years ago, and I sold the Yelich last year. Happy to say I still have the Curry!

I was sorting a bunch of 2019 Heritage and hit the stash of Torres/Acuna/Sotos and noticed that one of the Soto's was a French back. It came from a blaster (and I only bought a few of them.

Not a bank breaking card, but I only caught it because the coloration was just different enough for me to catch it and take a second look at it. It was a nice surprise.

In 2012, I opened a case of Topps Chrome, back when they didn't cost an arm or leg to purchase. It was a good case, hit a back to back dual auto of Matt Moore/Jeremy Hellickson, and a Bryce Harper black auto redemption (took a couple years to get the card but I have it). Anyway, I made full sets out of the base and figured there is no way I hit any photo variations since they were tough pulls. I actually traded away 1 base set without bothering to look and then my wife insisted. In the other base set, there it was Ichiro in his batting stance. It was a really nice find. (I do not still have the card actually traded it on here)

I broke two boxes of series 1 when it was released and pulled a Trout 1985 red auto /25, I was happy so I just put everything else in a box. When I was sorting a few days later, I found the platinum 1/1 decades best Giants card. So I pulled my first 1/1 and didn't know it for a few days.
